OpenBTS - Create your own personal cellphone network

Hey Kaufies,
Yes I have talked to some of the PTAWUG guys on their IRC channel. Dawie Joubert is a old friend. At this time I don't have funding or time to enhance the system as I am busy with another project. Maybe next year :)...

I do have a little "Jobs" in me... But Steve is the best!

Thank you

Wow what a pity, that no funding could be raised to further develop the OpenBTS project like the Village Telco project which uses Asterisk & Wireless Meshing technology.

I see OpenBTS as an extension to the Village Telco project (cheaper rural telco solution)

czesc to everyone

Hello Gentlemen,
czesc is a Polish word for Hello but there is nothing in English which sounds even simmilar to this. (you can download from this link http://pl.wiktionary.org/wiki/cześć an ogg file hidden under the word 'wymowa' and open with any media player to hear the sound. Poland is on the East from Germany, I am over 30 and I live in the town on the the Western-North, about 150 km from Berlin.
I found this thread via google from here and watched the floyd's movie on youtube. Most respect to you floyd for your achivements. It is amazing progress which happened via last year in the subject. I am specially interested if phones allready logged to a base would change a base to your one and what are conditions for that. The signal must be stronger or what? Maybe we could split research among us and create together something great? I new the Vodacome magic word just thanks to google :)

Thank you and best regards

OpenBootTS is a Debian-based LiveCD that can be used in combination with a USRP to act as a GSM base station. It includes fully-compiled binaries for GNU Radio, OpenBTS, Asterisk and much more, and lacks only the configuration files for OpenBTS and Asterisk to connect calls from GSM to the PSTN.

Purchase your USRP for $1400

yep removed the ISM filter on the RFX 900 board... also added external clock (signal generator)

Looks like Chris Paget does it again at Defcon now showing the vulnerabilities in the GSM
network which David Burgess has highlighted already with the OpenBTS project

LAS VEGAS — A security researcher created a cell phone base station that tricks cell phones into routing their outbound calls through his device, allowing someone to intercept even encrypted calls in the clear.

The device tricks the phones into disabling encryption and records call details and content before they’re routed on their proper way through voice-over-IP.
