Oneplus 6

You on 5.1.8 yes?

You could also try forcing GPU rendering (developer options).
Yes I am. Will try force GPU rendering.
On a related note, looks like Android has a new best browser: Kiwi.

https://bgr.com/2018/06/23/android-vs-iphone-features-apps-kiwi-web-browser/

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kiwibrowser.browser

If you Google you'll find many tech sites raving about it.

I've switched. Does seem amazing. Very fast, ad blocking and has news on the start page. My life is complete.

If you're using a custom icon pack, I find it better to change Kiwi to its default circle icon. Looks better.
Installed kiwi. Get the same choppy behaviour in kiwi. Didn't read the article, is kiwi based on chrome?

Kiwi is butter smooth for me. Noticeably more so than Chrome. Dunno what the heck your phone is doing.

And yeah, it's a Chromium browser.

Wut. Why?
Seems almost identical to chrome for me. Also I'm. Signed in on Chrome too so there's continuity on multiple platforms.

Will give kiwi a more extensive spin though and see what the fuss is about.

It's not like I'm uninstalling Chrome though. If I need a desktop bookmark I can just open Chrome.

The big deal is faster rendering and no ads. No ads is such a big deal many people resort to VPN-style solutions like Adguard and DNS66.

same, my password don't sync across and my tabs, etc, etc,

You guys could try moving your bookmarks to Xmarks or Eversync. Then you'll be free of any particular platform or browser.

Edit: Oh damn, Xmarks is no more. Pity. Was a great concept.

2nd edit: https://raindrop.io looks cool.

Fair emuff.

Been using adguard for ads since you recommended it. If adguard is taking care of ads, choosing a browsing client that has it inbuilt is no longer a priority.

I'm not a fan of duplicate apps with the same functionality. Maybe that's symptomatic of coming from ios.

Having said that I have side loaded the Google camera app. I also have vlc and mx player installed.

I'll probably stop using Adguard as a result of Kiwi. Chrome was by far the biggest reason to use Adguard. YouTube ads were hit and miss anyway once the service had been running a few hours, even with always-on selected in the Android VPN settings.

And Kiwi is better for ad blocking than Adguard as it removes them properly rather than give ugly blocks where they can't load.

Haha. You?

I got ad free YouTube with root. Works beautifully.

So you saying other than for chrome one doesn't need adguard? Lol.

It was useful in some other apps like Google News and AppSales, but in general not really beyond Chrome. I am a paid supporter of The Guardian so I don't get ads in the app. YouTube, Facebook and Twitter mostly escape ad blockers in their apps. I use Tapatalk Pro so not an issue there. In general I always pay for ad-free versions of apps.

Maybe share an example of the websites where you experiencing this?

I've seen tests where pixel and op were tested for frame drops and the pixel performed better than the op. So it's quite possible that your op isn't as smooth as your pixel.

I been using op for the last 2 years so can't really tell from op to op but iPhone 6s to op 3t I couldn't differentiate a drop in performance in any category.

Heres a video using kiwi. Chrome is not as bad.
Not sure if it's noticable on the video, but kiwi is really choppy. It's basically any page that includes images. If I use read view where it only displays text it's fine.

Internet is slow on my test as I was busy uploading pics to google.

Yeah. Can kind of see it. Wonder if that's what dropped frame rate looks like?

I get the same but I'm not too phased by it. Barely noticeable. I see it more as a rendering issue ie web page hasn't fully rendered.

You say you using an ad blocker? Wonder if that could also cause issues ie a delay or flicker when an ad banner is being blocked.

Think I found the issue. I had the OnePlus slate font selected. Switched to Roboto and browsing is a hell of a lot smoother.

I've switched to Roboto and will give it some time to see if I notice an improvement in smoothness. If so, thanks a lot for taking the time to fiddle around.

Think the mods are gonna kill us for raping that guys sales thread on carb!!
Anyway not all hydrogen os oneplus are sold in China only, mine came from India and had hydrogen on, if you check on xda the hydrogen is for India and China and some shops in India flash oxygen on the 6000 models.
Obviously they did it as some people complained about the different os on both models.
