Oneplus 6

Okay, the hiding the notch has implications for the custom launchers I use. No longer hiding it but a little more used to it this morning.

As some of you will know my favourite launcher is Squarehome2. It's a windows style launcher. The screen on the OP6 is rather rounded at the top and bottom so a square tile layout doesn't really correlate. I'm pretty bummed about that!!

Not much more to report at this stage. The screen seems a lot brighter than my 5T, the phone is incredibly quick, noticeably quicker than my 5T, camera also appears a significant improvement on the 5T. I wasn't expecting to notice the improvements in these categories.

Switch to Nova Launcher Prime already man.

I doubt the notch will bother me. My bro's gf has a P20 Lite and it is very similar in appearance to the OP6. Her phone looks bloody great.

Yeah, under normal circumstances your status bar, in some apps, is sometimes transparent, other times it's hidden from site completely and some times it's a solid bar. The notch is always there in some form or other. Don't underestimate how that can effect the end user experience. I now understand how it has such a polarizing effect among consumers.

I thought by default the notch was always hidden in apps?

The upcoming update to the notch might help, with black pixels being turned off instead of coloured black. Basically no different to just having a bezel at the top, but with notification stuff in it.

congrats on your unit man !!

I alternate between Nova and Squarehome, now and then stock OP launcher but seldom.

Spent the whole day trying to install custom recovery on the 6!! What a pain that turned out to be. I'm rooted with Magisk, unlocked the bootloader and running TWRP recovery but not at all convinced about the stability of any of it.

The 2 main reasons I root, Titanium backup and custom fonts. Can't get the custom fonts to apply...

Anyway, here is my first official setup on the 6. Screener hasn't been updated with a OP6 template so still using a 5T template...

Damn dude, one of the things I like most about OnePlus devices is not needing to root or flash anything on. The only reason I did it in the past was to be able to hibernate apps with Greenify, but since Oreo has a background disabling feature for apps that hasn't been necessary.

Why do you need Titanium Backup? It must have been years since I last used it - I stopped using it even in the days of being rooted. All my apps have their own built-in cloud syncing. Once I sign into them everything is taken care of.

I can't think of any app I use that's worth backing up with Titanium. As for fonts, the OnePlus Slate font is badass. I love it and it's right in the settings menu.

Yeah, I ran a few custom roms, weren't worth the trouble. As you say, stock is king!

Neither of the stock fonts do it for me. Would love half a dozen options and not just 2 but maybe it will come with future updates.

Titanium remembers and restores app custom settings as well as game play progress. Google play doesn't for some games. With Titanium you can also remember and restore system settings and apps. Used correctly it's a brilliant piece of software!

I also use an add free version of Youtube but there's a non root version of it too. Just easy to install via Magisk.

Mobile ads on Youtube certainly are a PITA, but Youtube Premium is coming to SA to replace Play Music and will include an ad-free Youtube experience. I'll just wait a few months for that.

Considering what a visual difference a new font can make across an entire device, it is indeed strange that manufacturers haven't embraced a wide selection of them in their settings options. I change icon packs periodically just to freshen things up, and if I had more font options I'd probably do the same with them too.

I'm picking my family up from the airport just before 1pm today. They should have my OnePlus 6 with them. So amped.

Ooooooh!!! Nice man!! :D

I've hidden the notch, works perfectly except for that Nova notification stutter. Enjoying the phone a lot more without the notch!

So I got Pixel 2 Product sans font running. Quite similar to roboto but it's a start. Decker font is the one I LOVE!!! Sure getting it on is easy peazy....

sand_man Hmm, not sure I'm mad about that font. It's nicer than Roboto though. My favourite font when I was rooted was Ubuntu. Most free font apps support it - give it a try perhaps.

My favourite font on the planet is probably Verdana. So modern and such fantastic legibility. Would love it on my phone.

Shouldn't you be at the airport? :p

The navigation gestures on the OP6 are awesome. Didn't expect them to be perfectly usable.
