Can anyone please explain to me how the import tax and stuff work if I import one? I managed to get this info:

http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-i...on/saved_calculations/view_details/189636240/

Is this info accurate? Is this thing really going to cost me R5100+ to get to my door? I'm planning on using either Stackry or MyUs. MyUs seems to be a little bit cheaper, and only charge per weight and not the dimensions.

MyUS will be cheaper thanks to their current weight special. In addition to the upfront courier cost, phone cost and initial shipping cost, you'll be charged 14% VAT on the total amount you declare, 14% of the value you declare for the phone, 0% for the value you declare for the charger and around R150 by your courier to handle your customs clearance on your behalf.

So if the shipping is, say $50, the phone is $350, then I pay 14% on $400 ($56) as well as 14% on $350 ($49) which adds up to $100 in taxes?

You don't pay taxes on the shipping.

But there are also clearance fees, Fedex charged me R250.

And the VAT is on the value + the duties.

And does said "value" include the price of the courier? Or is it only the price of the phone?

R250 is crazy. Use DHL Express rather. I've only ever been charged R150, and they deliver just as quickly as any other courier.

Just make sure you never use DHL without the Express. They hand over to SAPO when your package reaches SA. Thanks to the current state of SAPO that means you'll never receive it.

No. As mentioned, don't include shipping. OnePlus will not indicate the value of the items, so declaring them is up to you. There's no harm knocking $50 off the price, and valuing the charger at $50.

You may have to pay $10 to open a MyUS account though if you don't yet have one and if they still charge activation fees.

Ah, I see now. And where do I do the declaration? Do I do it with the mail forwarding company?

Yeah. They'll let you know when you have a new parcel in your account, and whether or not you need to declare any values.

was just about to come here and ask about all the import duties and crap. Ive also got a screen protector and cover coming in as well.

Obviously I want to give these thieves as little money as I can from my purchase.

Would it be a bad idea declaring it as a handheld cellular device like below?
HS Code 851712108000
Description - - - Designed for use when carried in the hand or on the person

Or would this possibly catch the eye of officials? Better to declare it as electronics and Accessories?

Edit

I'm going the more expensive route and going with FedEx. I've got parcels stuck with the post office that I think ill never see again... Prolly about R3k worth

Stackrys calculator doesn't seem to do anything ? I've changed the sizes slightly and weights and see no price difference. Guess ill wait to see when it all arrives there... At least i have $10 credit

As I mentioned above, DHL only hands over to our Post Office when not an Express item. DHL Express is as fast and reliable as FedEx, and imo their service is better.

I'm not familiar with Stackry, but MyUS doesn't let you choose your own shipping codes. It's considered fraud to knowingly deceive customs, and most countries flag certain destinations if they repeatedly get busted and always scrutinise the packages. I would feel safer declaring a lower value than using an incorrect code.

meh Stackry only does DHL Global Mail. Not express.

so I'll be sticking to FedEx I guess.

Guys.

Im desperately looking for a cover and screen protector for my OPO.

Going the drop ship method via Amazon or Ebay is just not viable as Ill end up paying R500 (or more) for a combo.

Does anyone maybe know of a cheaper alternative? Or even better, does anyone have a spare of either they are willing to sell to me?

Bidorbuy has a few. have a look there.

Ebay will have some cheaper ones coming out from china. Chinese shipping is cheap

Edit: Oh wait no you dont want to go that route... You wont receive the parcel since they ship through SAPO.

Why are you desperate for a cover and screen protector? The OPO has a very durable Gorilla Glass screen, and with a cover on will be approximately the size of a car.
