Hiya

I just received this mail from Openweb. I wonder whether this is a taste of the future?

Dear *****,

I have some exciting news! From Friday, 20 June at 18:00, until Saturday, 21 June at 18:00, we will be trialling our OpenBrowse OpenTime window.

We will allow all downloads through our proxy, at no extra charge to you, our valued OpenBrowse user!

So, if you had anything planned during this time, I suggest you stay at home and start your downloads!

If you do not have OpenBrowse, prices start at only R60 for a 192k connection. You may purchase OpenBrowse by logging in to your control panel: http://cp.openweb.co.za

Your login details:

Username: *****
Password: *****

OpenBrowse can be purchased using a credit card. You do not need to use an OpenWeb ADSL account in order to use OpenBrowse, you can buy it as a stand-alone product.

Enjoy!

Kind Regards

If they can do this often, it will be GREAT!

Looks Good, I already have OpenBrowse so I'll be testing it out on Friday.

It was awesome - and for some reason I got faster than advertised speeds whilst downloading - using openbrowse 192k I got 24 Kb/Sec with spikes into the 30Kb/sec range - anyone else experience this ?

Hey friends

I am glad that our 'OpenTime' window was enjoyed.

We will use the information gathered to implement a commercially viable 'OpenTime' model in the near future.

Any further feedback or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards

How exactly does it work? - I mean, how do I normal ISP's know not to cap us for this?

Is there any extra cost attached to this service or will the price remain unchanged?

OpenBrowse works through a program called OpenRouter. You install it on your PC, and it manages your OpenBrowse connection.

Your ISP will still monitor your local usage, per normal, and cap you if you reach your usage limit.

OpenBrowse is perfect for Internet Solutions users, and Telkom Internet users whom receives the local bandwidth after cap.

We do not block any ports during OpenBrowse OpenTime!

Thus, if you know how to link a proxy server to your p2p application, it should work.

Does it allow for P2P??

OpenBrowse OpenTime! is free to all OpenBrowse users.

The prices will remain unchanged, namely:

OpenBrowse 192k - R60 per month
OpenBrowse 384k - R90 per month
OpenBrowse 512k - R139 per month
