here to there.
I have bit the bullet and pre ordered openserve fibre and wanted to know what ont they install and what is the power rating. I have a backup battery for my adsl router and want to repurpose it for the fibre install. Also i am buying my own router so i need to decide which one is going to be more efficient regarding that. Does anyone know what they supply or what the power rating is?

I have a Huawei HG8240: Max power consumption is 7.8W

We are on an Openserve fibre network with a Huawei HG8240 ONT at the home.

I have a 12V SLA battery and a small 120VA inverter (230VAC) to keep home communications and Internet going during loadshedding.

In order to do the battery power budget, I measured the change in DC battery current drawn as I connect/disconnect devices to/from the 230VAC inverter.

Although the Huawei HG8240 ONT device has a power consumption of around 4 Watt during normal operation, the Huawei branded 12V 2A DC power supply that came with the HG8240 ONT, has a power consumption of around 5W, even if the ONT device is not even connected to the power supply.

It may be a more complicated setup if you have other devices that are in need of 230VAC, but you can save quite a bit of power if you can connect the Huawei ONT directly to the 12V DC battery power.
