OpenView HD channel list

Argh, crap channels. Im sure Toptv and multichoice are smiling again.

eMovies+ will be old stuff, but may be okay
Zest TV - don't know what this is.
ASTV - Afrikaans tv out of rustenburg
Deen TV - Some muslim junk
eToons+ may be okay for kids

Movies and toons are okay, but definitely not worth shelling out 1 and a half grand for. Should have known to keep my expectations low.

sooo..... got a dish already also old decoder 1110.... just need the frequencies and i can watch?

The list isn't that bad. It is free in any case. Lets look at what we really got:

All current SABC channels plus they promised they were going to add their news channel too.

eTV in HD becomes the first free HD channel in South Africa. Actually, its the first HD channel for everyone who cant afford a full R600+ for Multichoice. Also, considering how much local content they have, this is good for the local industry. Add to this the fact that all their productions would have to upgrade to the new standard, those of us wishing eNCA on DStv should go HD can expect that sooner, in WS at least as the other local news channels.
eKasi+ seems like it will be competing directly with Mzansi Magic, which will be interesting to see how that unfolds.
eToons+ will be exactly like any other kiddies channel, as they ALL carry ads.
Those wanting eNCA on the platform should really think about the fact that MC is putting money in there and they obviously won't continue doing so if it will be available for free.

Too much religious channels for me. Do they all have licenses and cash for this though?

Mindset Learn is probably a welcomed addition to those who are interested in its content.

Da Vinci Learning: A documentary channel!!!! Woop woop! (Schedule here:http://en.da-vinci-learning.com/schedule)

Engish Club seems okay I guess http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_Club_TV

Those saying DStv decoders are cheaper must remember they are subsidised.

I was expecting Sentana Sports, which they initially promised. Lets see what happens as time passes

ETV has joined the discussion :p

LOL I thought I would get such a response.

Its just that I really want to see them succeed with this little project, yet everyone won't even give it a chance. It's FREE for crying out loud! But just give them a chance.

I am disappointed with the oversupply of religion and lack of news, even though France 24, RT, PressTV, and others are available freely, even MSNBC.

Going to be interesting to see how the SABC, uhm, Sentech stacks up to this.

UPDATE: In my investigation to find out what Zest TV is (the only channel unknown), I only found out it's a "Culture and Lifestyle" Channel, still looking for programming.

Thats a fair amount to shell out for what basically amount to an extended E-tv experience. However I wish em the best of luck and hope they can get some traction in the market if for nothing else to ruffle the feathers or Monochoice and TopTv.

The once off cost is very enticing.

They were able to say 5 HD channels initially, and now suddenly he can speak on their behalf:confused:

It's great that it's free, but realistically the only channel I might watch is the movie channel. Now I have to weigh up whether that is worth paying 1500 or whatever the setup cost is. Personally I would get far more value out of loading that onto my steam wallet, so for me this deal holds no interest. But I do wish them all the best, and hopefully they can grow this into something a lot better.

well depending what the kids channel is like it might be worth it for our kids at least that gets them off our backs well our eldest at least :P

The chance of this being anything different to normal E tv are fairly small.
Movies, kids programs, etc. will surely all be old reruns.

And..... I've completely lost interest. Would have thought they'd at least have Al Jazeera. Not even the eNews channel.

Maybe the eMovies+ channel might have some worthwhile stuff.

What do other countries watch? Is everyone on earth dependent on Hollywood? Aren't there other networks that export better channels? I'm thinking the likes of UK, Canada (well it's an extension of US), Australia, Japan (besides Blackbelt and Sony)... it feels like a small world

Anyone watched e-news this evening? it was said that there will be a bollywood channel in the package at launch, as I understood.
