OpenView to drop channels

OpenView has announced that it will be cancelling sports channel Trace Sports Stars as well as Afrikaans religious channel KruisKyk.

KruisKyk, which aired on channel 151, is being removed from the broadcaster's catalog today, while Trace Sports Stars - which is found on channel 116 - will run until Tuesday 14 May.

Ag no man. Another "competitor" to Dstv going down and closing shop.

Cool, does not bother me the least bit...
They can replace Kruiskyk with any other non religious channel and it will be an improvement.
Trace Sports stars is crap at its best as well, so it wont be missed.
Only 2 channels worth watching now and then, DVlearning and Reality (sometimes).
Openview is still much better value for money than Monochoice

Please reply.cant u put an animal channel or another movie channel or so

OpenView is not closing shop. They are just dropping low performing channels.

They are not really a competitor to DSTV, as DSTV is pay TV.
That's usually the first thing that happens when there's financial constraints. Also they are a competitor to Dstv. Their advertising revenue depends on viewer numbers.

Well the sports channel isn't that bad, has live Formula E racing that is geoblocked by YouTube.

You do realise DSTV drops channels from time to time too?

You mean the same Dstv under constraint from the likes of Netflix?

But then Dstv drops one channel and then adds another. Overall it's gone up but it looks like OpenView is at a trend reversal now.

Hope they bring in a highlights package of the sports that took place the previous weekend. That way they won't be infringing on DSTV live coverage.

You may be on to something here. Dstv can have the rights to the live coverage while the others get to broadcast it with a delay at a lower price. Used to be like that with the SABC. Would still probably be charged for but at least it will be competition that those who want to see all the sports but can't/don't want to pay the full price can use.
