Dankie garp. Eish. Sommige bankklerke kon dit in hulle kop optel (daar was nie rekenaars nie).

Ons het ‘n sjieling 10c werd gemaak. ‘n Pond het dus R2 geword. Nou wonner ek hoekom kos ‘n Pond vandag R18 … dis net R2 werd. Wie steel my geld?

Ons is nie die enigste land wat besluit het op die komma nie. Drukkers het gesê die punt kan maklik ‘n ink kolletjie wees. Ek gebruik nog altyd die komma.

We officially use the comma? Since when?

But despite that, using a comma or point makes no difference here.

0.60c or 0,60c are both 6/10ths of a cent.

If they had used R0.60 or R0.60 then it would be 60 cents.

Opened made a mistake. Everyone saying 0.60c is the same as 60c....please go back to school and study math again.

Since decimalisation day. D-Day it was called. The third day of the third month 1961. The mascot was Decimal Dan.

Before that we had pounds, shillings and pence (pennies) and crowns (5 shillings) and half-a-crowns (two-and-six) and guineas (£1 and 1 shilling). £1 was valued R2 (not R18 like today). Miles, yards, feet and inches and acres. Gallons and pints. Pounds (weight) and ounces.

We were not the only country that decided to use the decimal comma. Printers said that a point could easily be an ink spot. One can even set your Excel spreadsheet to use the comma.

America kept the point. And miles and feet, and gallons and pints. Why do Americans drive on the right hand side of the road? Because the English drive on the left hand side. That’s why.

But that would make the decimalisation a westernization thing? That means that we should go back to the fullstop and make it our own thing that has not been corrupted by the western powers...

If you so wish, you can use the full stop, iphuzu, ngongoma, ntlha, punt, dot, spot, punctuation mark, point, period. Nobody is going to stop you.

I was expecting one or two people to make the same mistake openweb made when I created this thread. In stead it seems to be the majority. I guess our educational system truly is in shambles.
