OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

Here I was thinking I was the only one that had a "shared line" Twice I have caught them out simpily by reporting the fault with my user name they supplied.
Both times they responded using another users name... :) When the other guy is not using the account I get great latency, but once he comes on it goes to **** ...
Surely one user account for life should be a policy. There standard responce is an sms after reporting a fault with "Welcome new customer please log in XXXX with password xxxxx" And you are left think WTF I have been with them for months. Things go well for a few weeks then you start noticing everything slowing down. If you are lucky eneough to talk to a techie it is always the same. Blah blah blah technical mumbo jumbo and after stringing you along guess what you get a new username and password. :(

I suspect thats why OW is prone to the "here is a new account to fix it"...i.e. they swap them out when the stars become problematic.

^^ This is what I have suspected all along too. Combined with coupling you with a low usage user would alleviate the slowness you were experiencing. Only for the slow down to return days later as your downloading caused your stars to drop.

So I left my OW account alone for a day to see how much data the other user consumes. It's only about 1GB, so I'm definitely the heavier user.

Impossible, according to the DR, they don't share accounts. They have the ability to, but they don't. According to the DR that is. :P

+1

The only thing that computes logically :)

Very interesting. This is exactly what is happening. It makes the most sense out of all the theories.:)

Everytime stars drop they give you a "new" account (username and pass) off the bottom of the list of usage which is probably being used by someone who just checks their mail etc. That way they are utilizing their IS bandwidth to the max and its the most profitable for them. It's actually quite sneaky.

Ye I don't think what they doing is illegal but it is a very unethical way to go about business, in order for them to make the most money. It makes for ALOT of support and that's why people continuously cry about SUDDEN slow speeds and then get given a new username, and all is fine again.

I've been saying it for years but DrBeep always shot me down

I am now pretty sure OpenWeb accounts use the star rating system. A friend had really slow internet - lent them my capped account, they tried their OpenWeb account after two days, still slow, then they left it for two weeks, connected again yesterday and it's super fast again.

Internet is working craptastically right now. Downloading Bitdefender Internet Security at a whopping 50KB/s. I need to have downloaded 5GB's by tomorrow evening. Luckily I have a backup account this month.

Fraud is fraud, calling it unethical is sugar coating the turd

I cant see how sharing IS accounts over multiple users is fraud. No where, which I am aware of does it state that if you buy from IS resellers are u only allowed to let one person use that account, and also, I dont think they state in their terms and conditions that the accounts is yours and yours only.

I think what they are doing is terrible and I don't agree with it. I was also a victim to this rubbish. However I think saying its fraud is incorrect.

This is why they can get away with it.

I think we all know accounts are being shared, but I gotta say, I'm still not entirely convinced about the whole star rating business. I'm sharing my account with a very light user, but I'm still pulling roughly 300gb a month with no slowdowns.

BTW, I figured out what my p2p issues were about. It seems that after a recent uTorrent update, if I limit my upload speed in any way, my download speeds die almost completely. I don't understand why it's doing this, because I used to always limit my uploads to 20kb/s and had no issues. Anyone else experiencing this?
