It is no secret that during office hours you are shaped. That rule has been applied for all the years I have been with OW. If it's after hours, then fine there is a problem. But downloads during peak day are not going to work. And if they are on another ISP, then i am sure it is a matter of time before the curtain come down, and then that ISP is going to get burned. For those who can recall, it was approx 2 or 3 years ago when Afrihost initiated the uncapped fever wrt pricing etc, and when they couldn't maintain the loss anymore, they began shaping, which ended up in a similar "hate the ISP scenario". Just seems like we repeating in circles.

This is very true. I've seen it happen with Mweb, WebAfrica, Afrihost and many of the smaller ISPs. It has actually happened twice with Afrihost- back when they originally launched their uncapped product and recently when they relaunched it. Bandwidth locusts will flock to an ISP that has a good rep, the heavy downloading starts and over time the network performance continues to degrade as more and more people join and eventually things go pear-shaped and everyone starts jumping ship in favor of the next ISP, where the same thing happens eventually.

Let's just hope this doesn't happen to Crystal Web as well.

Also, for what it's worth, my http downloads on OpenWeb have always been utter crap. I'll get full speed p2p and Steam, then site with a hhtp download going 20-40kb/s. :(

Decided to part with my OW 4mb business uncapped account at the end of the month as Netflix streaming and gaming latency on the MTN backbone are terrible lately.

Any recommendations on where to go? From what I read on the forum today WebAfrica uncapped business seems alright (IS based).

busy downloading an 819mb file since this morning and it show only 9hours left... at 37kbps... :(

Hi

I understand that your gold uncapped has downloads shaped during working hours. But I cannot even get to Google or even this site.
I had to wait till 5.01pm and everything began working so that I could log in here to complain.

Recently I complained (Ticket ID: OYZ-841-25124) and I was told to stop using my account while he ran some tests and he gave me a trial account. I have not received feedback from him regarding the results of my test. When i switched back to my account it worked well and browsing during office hours worked for a change.

However after 3days it went back to the same issue of not being able to even browse Google between 8am and 5pm weekdays.

I have a Gold account which is suppose to prioritize browsing but instead I am left with an after hours account.

Can everyone who has their account set to cancel check their Control Panel, my active products are gone and support tells me this is the norm during cancellation.
I have to check my usage regularly, and I was not made aware that I cannot use the control panel when I cancelled.

This has not been the case in the past, and the contract terms have not changed (read it when I initially cancelled in January, where the account didn't disappear, and now when it did. No mention of this..)

Odd thing is that Leon reset my password when "No changes to the account can be done"

...

Yes my uncapped account is gone... I downgraded, and the new capped account is listed as active, and I have the password already... But it's only supposed to be active from next month *facepalm*

Sheesh I don't know. Maybe I should sign up again. It has been like this on my 4Meg gold uncapped throughout this month of suspense(sic). (day and night)

Maybe the solution is to sign up and then cancel the next day. Fast uncapped internet all the time... (this may stil come to bite me in the arse as I still have 20 days to go :D )

My account in the CP is also missing. Tough *****. Next week their chance to take money is also gone. Going to instruct the bank to block the debit order.

Only seems fair. they cant just block u from it because u cancelled and still take money. :)
