OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread (Pt2)

I've been an OW subscriber for the past 7.5 years. If I felt that they "trapped" me in any way, I would've moved to a different ISP a long time ago. :)
You are either:
1) An Openweb employee
2) Someone who doesn't use Openweb during the day

Let me tell you I deeply regret choosing this ISP and now its going to cost me to move elsewhere.

Ok I havent been around that long, but I must say I am also enjoying my Openweb account.

Trust me I will be the first to complain if something goes wrong

I didn't make the "cut" to be able to test this new Gold Unshaped Uncapped. Guess it is a good sign for things to come...:)

Hi guys.

I'm looking to change my ISP from Afrihost and get a 10Mb uncapped account.
What's Openweb like in terms of network quality and service?

I'd like a consistent service. I run Netflix and Hulu and they fluctuate more than the number of eTags [reportedly] sold.

Can you can recommend Openweb?

happy openweb subscriber here too, are my eyes shut too?

They appear to be.

It doesn't take much to realize that openweb have lied to us about their shaping policy. If you chose to believe their claims that their shaping is based purely on network traffic then you must be blind.

Do you actually believe that the network experiences the exact same traffic, at the exact same time, every single weekday? It can only be that way if the shaping occurs at a precise time everyday.

Do you actually believe that the network experiences the exact same level of traffic on a public holiday as it does on a regular weekday? I mean, this must be the case as their shaping is indistinguishable. According to cableguy it's because people sit at home and download on public holidays. Apparently they don't download on weekends because the system seems to remain unshaped.

They advertise their products as being shaped dynamically but it doesn't take a genius to see that isn't the case. When confronted, they'll either "misread" your question or deny the obvious. Do you find this type of behavior to be acceptable? If not, then please ask openweb what the difference is between their gold, gold leon, gold orange, titan, standard, gamer king, etc.. Because they advertise them all to be vastly different, and at significantly different prices and yet, nobody seems to see any differences in their performance. Now you must pay more then their competitors to get an unshaped account. I'm sure it will always stay unshaped. Because they're very transparent about how their shaping works.

Don't even get me started with the account sharing thing. How the saix system is apparently not an accurate tool on openweb account (but it is for other isp's) and hence it shows that multiple IP's have been been connecting to the same account. How it's only a glitch in the system when two people found out they had the same login details. How most people get the password 1122. How some of us have usernames that appear to be the name of somebody else. How users were being given new accounts when all they wanted was a password change. How it is necessary for us to request for our accounts to be given the password change feature. Definitely not suspicious...

According to saix, using my "new" login details, I am the only IP address connected to my account. My usage last month was 74gb. Not bad seeing as though my previous account was averaging 150-200gb per month when there were these other "magical" IP addresses connected to it, from vastly different parts of the country.

Now I'm happy that your account is working well, I really am.. But you have to be extremely naive to think that you are special. You're just another customer to them and, when push comes to shove, they'll lie to you just as callously as they did to us. If support is not important to you, and performance is all that matters, then enjoy it while it lasts. Good luck trying to get an honest answer when you start having problems. I, along with many others, will be taking my business elsewhere.

How come i cant cancel via the Client Portal, wtf, do we honestly have to email to cancel?

Thought we were past that ancient way.

Start at page 1 and when you are finished read the odd 1000+ of the older OW thread. Then make up your own mind.

Give this man a Bell's.... Hammer right on the nail head.

Openweb do not give honest answers. Their "business model" remains that of "reselling" Internet Solutions' crap and sharing accounts until they either get caught or the customer complains. I am not surprised Mr. Wright is playing a "duck" from this forum. The crap is hitting the fan and he hides away under the guise of "going on holiday"

I chose OW because of word of mouth referral. I went to see that guy 2 weeks ago because he called me in to ask for help why his Logitech unit battled to stream during the day. Went there, and saw for myself the throttling... he was very surprised.

I have canceled and moved to a web africa business account. Performance has degrade the last few months so was time to move.

+1

The truth is in this post. My password is 1122 and I can't change it because OW CP is inaccessible due to my username/password being incorrect. This is a joke!

Koosi, jy's baie snaaks, maar nou ja...

1) No, I am not an OW employee
2) I do use OW during the day

I've never experienced any crap performance like the majority of you lot here in all the years since I've been a subscriber. I've been streaming Twitch (2x High quality streams simultaneously) no issues. I did some Steam updates a while ago, full line speed. Downloaded via NNTP, full line speed. Downloaded a couple of torrents as well, guess what... full line speed as well, all thanks to this new unshaped uncapped trial account. And all of these downloads took place during office hours.

Before I had the trial account (let's say the last 1.5 months), I couldn't stream as much, but I could still download, obviously not full line speed but I could at least do more than all of you combined here could do. I can always browse, can use gmail etc. But like I always say, I guess I'm one of the few who never have any issues. My original gold account has served me well for the past 5.5 years (the other 2 years I only had a capped account before I went gold).

I feel sorry for those that haven't had a pleasant experience, I hope you find what you're looking for at a different ISP.

Maybe I should post those videos I made to Youtube

OW's not what it used to be since last year in December.... at least for me. I signed up for my first one in June last year. It was easily one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. Getting a boner on purpose in a full classroom is one of them. I'm pretty sure that they silently changed their system of handling our mainstream OW accounts to make them crap in order to conserve more bandwidth for their %80ers aka high-paying web-browsing dumb clients.

This OW account is my 4th one. I'm pretty sure that it belonged to someone else who cancelled and left for a greener ISP ages ago. My first one was painfully slow. The 2nd and the 3rd ones were OK in the first few weeks and then went downhill so fast.
