OpenWeb and OpenBrowse

My openbrowse has been slightly faster of late, browsing occurs at +- 10 kb/s and not 2 anymore. Can work with this.

THe big big question: will the downloads work correctly this weekend??

Strange, just opened CNN and BBC, browsing speed varies from 30k/s to 50k/s while both pages were loading.

PS: ok, it's not that stable as certain sites load ok but some takes forever, but considering someone is also complaining http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=172735 maybe it's Telkom's problem again? My SAIX account is also not working very fast this afternoon.

Hi chaps. I was experiencing problems with openbrowse for along time. I pm'ed MR Beep last Saturday and he replied saying that my account had been reset. Since then openbrowse has been working really well. I'm able to download stuff at around 30 kb/s.
Thanks Mr Beep for the assistance. Now I feel like I'm getting my money's worth :D

Just to be on the safe side of things he should reset all accounts periodically so he doesnt have to hear us moan about it in the forums everytime speeds go downhill.

Hey people, I see that Openweb is putting more servers for openbrowse purposes? In the log it used to show only like 1 or 2 proxy servers and one for MSN, just now I logged in and saw 3 servers pluse MSN server.

Hi again. My openbrowse is not working again. Browsing is fine but when I try downloading it gives me errors( in d/l manager) and just doesn't work ( in firefox). Pm'ed Mr Beep. Hop I get this fixed quickly - was plannig to use up my local bandwidth this weekend.

It works here, full speed. Maybe just try now and then, probably because of month end network congestion.

Just got a note from Mr Beep saying the proxy is down because of IS backbone failure. Openbrowse has been down since last night. Still not up at 12H00 today, despite assurances. I really like Openweb because it allows me to browse international sites with my local bandwidth, but I really wish there was some competition and a better service. This could really be cool, if it was a lot more responisive. I definitely am experiencing a lot of network throttling and am choking to death in some respects, so please get us back up online and up to speed.

Hey afrodeity

One proxy server was down for about 48 minutes. Other than that, all servers are running smoothly right now.

If you still cannot connect, please email me.

Kind Regards
MrBEEP

can someone explain to me how the Founders Special works?
1. I have Telkom Do-1 384K line, will I have to switch to OW or stay with Telkomsa.net and still use OW Founders Special?
2. COntract? or monthly?
3. Bandwidth carryover? for how long ? 1 month or 12 months?
4. There are packages that say 192K and 512K, will OW chnage my line speeds if TELKOM has assigned this?

1) Yes, you need to use OW bandwidth. So if you signed Do 1 contract, means you need to still pay Telkom monthly although you want to use OW.
2) Both Contract and Monthly.
3) No bandwidth carry over, you need to use them all in that month.
4) Speed is always dependent on your ADSL line speed, so if you only has 384kbps, and bought Rider Special which support 512kbps, you will only achieve the lower speed.

Bought a OpenWeb Uncapped Express Special last month and was in general very happy with the product, the only negative part was me signing on the 9th and they stop it at the end of the month, luckily I did not sign on the 25th of the month. Must be the small print I missed. Just signed on for the Founders special with crossed fingers. Will try it for a month.

I just cancelled Founder's and went onto the 5GB Semi Unshaped. The Founders is a great deal! My line speed just isn't fast enough to use all that cap :(

I just ordered OpenBrowse, but so far I'm a little disappointed.

I'm told my request will only be processed after 12 o'clock today, I made the payment just after 8 this morning. Made a payment the same time to WA for my local only and 10 minutes later my account was updated.

So far I'm a little disappointed in the admin side of OpenWeb, I hope there is a good reason and this is not the norm.

Here's hoping OpenBrowse is worth it...

Paid last night by creditcard for the fouders special, it's now 11:22 the next day and no word from them, just spoke to a person by the name of Dean and according to him they will, maybe activate it today. Not good enough

Almost 12, still nothing.

If this is the norm then I will not be happy with their service. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for now.

Account is active but I'm awaiting someone to give me the details on how to get his running on Linux, so far nothing.
:(

This is not looking good...

Still not resolved. I received the proxy settings (for Linux) but it did not work.

This is getting a little frustrating.
