So,
I have given MWEB notice, at the end of this month I have no internet.
Guess I better start looking around.

I get the impression that Openweb is the best, but how good are they really? I hear conflicting stories about people saying its shaped to oblivion during the day, and some say its downright awful.

I have a close friend who has an account with them, and he is a heavy downloader, and uses Netflix and Hulu on the connection. It works.

I am really confused.

OW is by far the best. THey're the only ISP that truly do not care how much data you use.

A proper gold account will be the best experience you can get.

PM MrBeep for a trial account for a week.

Welcome to the OW family :)

Sometimes they're good, sometimes they suck beyond what can be described.
But I suppose all ISPs are like that.

Said friend runs a business from home that is mission critical. I have been phoned in the past to come and help when PCs have died.
He has never had any issues with OW, and he downloads a ton of stuff... around 500Gb a month I surmise.

So already a plus mark for not worrying how much data I use... OK cool.
I also need reliability, sometimes I have to work from home... can you please describe the issues they sometimes have? Is this due to SEACOM perhaps?

The complainers are those on the cheap accounts. Get GOLD and you'll be happy.

Its very simple.

People complain because those who pay R200 a month want the same service as those who pay R1000 a month.

The more you pay the better your experience.

Email them and request a trial account...
I'm on the 2M gold account and very happy, my line recently upgraded to 4M, and my 2M gold account is giving me 4M downloads :)

I guess I should just let you know, I am on openweb gold currently getting 20KB/s. Local sites loading slow and gaming almost impossible.

Leon@ openweb confirmed I am getting shaped. Sadly I do use it during the day, so don't expect to do anything but light browsing to work. During the evening it is fine so I guess if you can live with that it will be good for you.

I am at the point where I am getting a second business line installed, so 2 x2 meg lines so I can get business uncapped from telkom on it.

Daytime = account is generally slower than advertised unless you're on a business account
Evening = account can exceed it's advertised limits if you're running an account that is slower than your actual line sync speed

That's because many of the one's who bought into the promotional accounts were mislead into thinking they were getting the full quality service at a discounted rate.

There are also a lot of complaints about Gold (Leon Edition) which is a promotional Gold Account.

I'm on a promotional Standard Uncapped package, I was mislead into believing that I was getting the full Standard Uncapped service at a reduced price. Having said that, my service levels are more than acceptable for my needs, so I really shouldn't compain. Also, I've never had to wait longer than a few hours for my support queries to be resolved.

I use a standard account at home (don't need to use it during the day) and at the office we have a Business platinum account which is as awesome as it sounds. The business account has not given us a hint of trouble.

I read the feedback thread.
Seems in exchange for unlimited bandwidth you sacrifice latency.. that sucks!

Lies. Had the gold. Shaped like most the other non platinum accounts into the ground in the day. No thanx

How dare you say that Wackyza! I hope you got your flamesuit on, its about to get warm up in here!
