So, tonight I opened up OpenRouter and I entered my login details and logged in.
It was smooth sailing until I received the following error message when I tried to access a few sites.

This pornography website is blocked due to an Openbrowse policy

Contact your OpenWeb support Staff for more information

Excuse me... Pornography website? No.
What the hell is up with this? Why are they blocking websites even though this service is being paid for?

Comment, rave on OpenWeb, or offer some suggestions please.

Which site was it?

If it was in error, then you should notify them. But if it is a site that might generate high traffic then I can understand the policy. The point of OpenBrowse is "simple" access, not "high-traffic" access. It is there so people can visit sites and do a basic level of surfing. If you want to view high-bandwidth sites or graphics intensive sites, then OpenBrowse is not for you... get an uncapped solution.

Lol, dude.

I'm guessing this is just with Openbrowse. They probably don't want to "waste" their proxy service bandwidth.

This should be in the terms and conditions, though.

Need to change the topic of this thread from "OpenWeb Blocking Websites" to "OpenBrowse Blocking Websites" <- big difference.

What website?
Did you contact them first before posting here?

Come on dude. You cant post here, and give some people the wrong idea about OpenWeb without giving them a chance to respond first.

I have not had this problem with OpenBrowse. Perhaps I have not gone onto this particular site ;)

Of course he can post here!! This is what these forums are for. How many people post here before contacting other ISPs? It seems that if it is bad press related to openweb, then all the fanboys come out screaming and shouting...

I'd actually like to know what the site is he's trying to surf

Its not that, people are quick to make threads about isp's without having contacted them, which i feel is rather poor.

If they give you the run around then yes post here, atleast give them the benefit of a telephone call or email conversation.

I agree, people are very quick to make threads but it seems that if it is a comment against openweb then there are a lot more people that get their heckles up... methinks some people are being paid commission ;)

They are giving people the run around. They claim that they do not block sites, but they obviously are. What is a phone call to the helpdesk going to acheive?? Erm, we know we say we don't block sites... erm but we do. Thanks for calling...

Let us know how the mail comes along :)

Would be interesting to see. Surely they are not stupid enough to block sites and then claim not to?

Some of the sites being blocked:

www.thepiratebay.org
www.totse.com
www.ebaumsworld.com
www.4chan.org

[edit] I've emailed them... Awaiting a response.

Not that I would agree with them, but they would probably claim that the Pirate Bay is used for illegal downloads, the others are all graphics or video intensive. 4chan has some pornography on it. I can see kinda valid reasons why they would want to block it, but then they should have spelled that out in their terms of service and advertising. It is not just enough to say "no downloads" allowed.

1. The Piratebay isn't only there for illegal downloads. You can also download free and open source material there.

2. I understand why they would block streaming sites, as they mention that. But sites that are data intensive should not be blocked as I am still merely browsing (which is what OpenBrowse is intended for)

3. 4chan has many boards, who says I go onto the porn boards? And whether it's porn or not does not matter, since porn is not illegal. So why are they blocking it?

Still no response to the email I sent at around 15:30

The internet is used for illegal downloads, lets ban that while we're at it :p

I do not see the sense in "banning" eg. piratebay if you cannot download the torrent files through openbrowse in any case
