OpenWeb is Bandwidth Sharing

There was a small bug in one system, but that could not have caused a SAIX account to be recreated over another.

I have had to consult SAIX regarding this.

We await a reply.

-any updates on the investigatesions mrBeep/forumtees ?

Well I have been part of Openweb for a while now, still am on their uncapped accounts.
The first uncapped was one of their mybroadband specials, turned it I was sharing it was one of the members here (we chatted about it over PM when we both had issues and both logged the same usage stats)
When that special stopped I switched over to my current uncapped account. It was also shared. I emailed them, got new details and now check it on a near daily basis for anything funny. So far it hasnt happened again.

Bandwidth sharing is ofcourse wrong, but i think if this is happening, its an unintentional problem that's reared its head. If you're truely that unhappy with Openweb, then why on earth are you still with them? Quite honestly, some of you have been saying how terrible they are and that they are bandwidth sharing - can you prove it? not just say so, but actually prove it? ... i will not be surprised if you can't! :)

Openweb Rocks!

I must say I have never had any problems with Openweb. This whole affair does seem rather disturbing and seems to point to someone working for Openweb doing something dodgy at some stage.

But let us wait and see before we rush to judgment. As I said, for what it is worth, I have had nothing but great service from Openweb over the last two years. :)

I too have been with openweb for a very very long time. I have never had any problems, or experienced any of this nonsense that is suggested here.

dudes, it is amazing how a few comments can mess up a reputation. I am sorry, but in my opinion, openweb rocks!!

openweb ftw!!

ps i like the new site

Yes, I have the ISDSL site screenshotted showing me in Durban and another connection in Pretoria on the same account at the same time. More than once, on more than one account I've had. But since I complained to them about it, I havent had it happen again (touch wood)

sakkie, care to post it so we can see ?

I could, but that wont prove anything as someone else will just say its untrue or I gave the details to a friend to log in with so me could make something up.

The matter was resolved at the time after I contacted mrBeep and the last time this happened to me was July 2007 and so far I havent had it happen to me again.

Either way, I still don't see the concrete proof. The matter was resolved, and you're loving every minute of your uncapped account, Yes!

I'd say Openweb's ontop of things!

I can help with the proof that it happened.

Well the same thing happened to me, see
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=104146
At the time the issue was resolved quite quickly, and I agree with you, since then there has not been any reason to complain about the service from OpenWeb. I have had zero problems with my internet, but the fact remains it happened, and now the same thing happened to few users like silv3rback.
I kept my screenshot of the IS usage page, but I'm not sure if I should post it, it does show details like the IP addresses and the username of the account that I used to have, and I assume that Hxx still has. I don't know if it is a good idea to post it in a public forum?
Anyway, like I said, glad that it was resolved for me, but this does seem to be happening a lot at Openweb, for whatever reason.:D

Just on the username etc part of the ^, just edit the things you don't want people to see with Paint, I think most of us are curious and would like a bit more info on all this.

This is a copy/paste from the email I sent to mrBeep on the 2 logins in my account.

I am not going to go through the effort of uploading a picture, like I said, it has been resolved on my side. If you guys still think that we all making this up, that's your choice.

it still don't prove that its intentional nor that its openweb's fault. It could very well have been the work of hackers, keyloggers from spyware that you didnt know about... I agree that it does seem strange that a new account are subject to things like these, but is it really that impossible?

As long as it gets sorted out!

Ok, I hope this works.

The top session is mine, the other was Hxx. The username I received from them on the 4th of February was an @openweb.co.za username , the same one as Hxx. Sometime later that night mrBeep contacted me with a new user name which was an @dsl512.isdsl.net username, that I used for the rest of the month, until today, when it wouldn't authenticate. After paying the R999 invoice for March they send in my e-mail, (which it turns out I was supposed to have paid before the 1st of the month:) ), they send me a new username, this one also @openweb.co.za.
I have been regularly checking the usage page last month, and today with my new account, but so far so good, only me logged in:D
And by the way for mrBeep, or anyone from Openweb that might be reading this, is it going to happen every month that I will receive a new username, or was it just this month with everything that happened at the beginning? Not really complaining, just wondering if I will have to change it every month on my router?:D

My account is only in my router, no where else. And my PC is very secure in terms of spyware, antivirus, OK'ing every new process that looks dodge etc due to the nature of my work that I do. And no, router does not have default password or any admin from outside private network enabled :)

Like I said, one can post this and there will always be a million reasons why it could have been something else.

For any Openweb clients, maybe just check your usage one a week or so in any case, and click the history button and go through them. Remember if someone took your account they may not be logged in at that time, but history will show all connections. OpenWeb do seem to sort out the issues if brought to their attention.
