After vowing to never deal with Openweb again, I recently saw that they were giving away a free 1GB capped account. I thought to myself, there's no harm in getting this - its free - Its just a backup account.

However it started getting annoying being bombarded with usage emails every single day. So I emailed openweb kindly asking them if they could stop sending me so many emails.

The response:

Hi

This is for your free capped trial account.

By law when there is a capped account issued to a client then you have to send them usage stats.

Are you not wanting this account?
Please advise

Kind regards,

I do understand it is a free account, and I don't really have the right to complain about much. But I get this response?

Openweb - Not even their free accounts are worth it!

Yeah, I don't know about this... I have multiple capped accounts with multiple ISPs and none send me daily usage stats

Ask them to send you a copy of the law article or whatever that states they as ISP is required to send you daily usage stats. I would like to see that :)

Openweb use to be amazing when it just started out, but these days they are just another ISP. They oversell and underdeliver. A TITAN package certainly sounds impressive but if you ask for the details it turns out it is the lowest offering that they have.

In the sea of mediocrity that is the ISP industry, I think Openweb compares no better or worse than other ISPs.

Ah...the infamous Zelda....i've spent many nights on support chatting to her...but of course it was Telkom that was the problem...

Yah well, in business she is representing OpenWeb, it is their own internal procedures (and responsibility) to improve sales, customer service etc. Seeing their business philosophy, terrible.

OpenWeb must note incidents like these, pointing to the overly-scheduled usage reports and attach a disclaimer or policy when a user complains, you NEVER throw your service at them, and you either resolve the issue or correct the customer according to policy (which abided to regional law). I don’t see this to be an issue with Zelda, but a concern with their operations.

I cancelled my OW free gig because of this too. Got a free gig from Axxess, WA and from AH, they don't spam me every day.

OpenWeb is not worth it. I'd rather cycle down to Cape Town, copy my data on an external drive, and cycle back up to JHB before I even consider using them to download anything.

I am currently on a openweb reseller uncapped account and it is business as usual for openweb. Bad service both in connectivity and customer support. Your account is dead during the day. nothing loads or works.

It is disappointing to see openweb melt away under utter incompetence and horrible policies. If i paid more than the 1/10th the price the account normally cost I would actually moaned a lot more. :D

I used them for about a month. Numerous issues and super slow speeds. I have to agree with envo.
