I got a 2mb uncapped Titan account from openweb a few months back. I used it mainly in the evenings and the service was ok. Movies buffered a few times but was acceptable. I hardly download anything but it was clear that this account was heavily throttled during the day. When the service started getting so bad that even in the evenings it was slow that you couldnt watch anything. I said I want to cancel and they gave me a new adsl user account. This account does not buffer at all after 6pm when streaming. During the day however it is so bad that between 8am and 5pm it is unusable. It either does not connect or is so slow that I cant do anything. I logged a call with them last week and was told to do a speedtest on speed test.net. The line is so slow that it could not even connect to speedtest site.s Each time i called their call centre I was transferred to the technical department who just put you on hold. I eventually gave up and started using my cellphone to do my emails etc. I have the same problem again today. Can anyone suggest a better ISP for a 2mb uncapped account thats mainly used for video streaming but should at least be able to connect during the day. I am happy to pay more for an account thats not so badly throttled. Of what use is uncapped account when its so badly shaped/throttled you cant even connect to google or gmail. My old dialup modem was faster. Oh when you tell them you want to cancel they send you automated response offering 15% discount and you must please let them know what the problem is. I don't know what the bloody problem is that why I logged a call with your support department. All I know is there is no internet connection. And NO I cant do a speedtest cos duh there is no internet connection. :wtf:

THE TRUTH ABOUT OPENWEB

1. All accounts get SHAPED and/or THROTTLED to death... Yet its clearly stated on their website you would never been THROTTLED. During the day my speed seldom exceed 40kbps on a 4mb account

http://businesstech.co.za/news/columns/57789/throttling-is-ridiculous-isp/

2. Only "ISP" that don't keep track of your usage, but LOTS of OW accounts are being SHARED. I got the proof of my account being shared

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=122933&d=1401832605

3. Access to http://userstats.adsl.saix.net/ & http://users.isdsl.net/ blocked and they are lying about usage stats when they are in fact correct and because it was too easy to see account sharing and correct usage, another lie

3. Resell IS, MTN etc products and thus don't need an office as most of their stuff are done by IS etc anyway. Its called "ISP in a Box". They buy "X" amount of gigs per month from IS, MTN etc and manage it as they see fit, thus the endless types of specials and account types.

4. Only got a handful of employees - Leon, Zelda, Leoni, Charmaine. Athol and Keoma the members of the CC.

5. They use various names - OpenISP, Openweb, Myopenweb etc.

6. Committed FRAUD with their CIPRO registration using a false address etc.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=124739&d=1402495556

7. Not registered as an ISP with ISPA or ICASA.

https://www.icasa.org.za/Portals/0/Regulations/Licensees/Individual/I-ECS&ECNS-Database_0711.pdf

8. Incorrect Lindekin data.

http://www.linkedin.com/company/openweb.co.za

9. No ability to resolve account issues besides giving out other accounts which are already in use...

10. Blaming Telkom/router for everything yet accounts with other ISP's are working 100%

11. Constant account authentication issues...

12. Their MyBB accounts stopped responding the 9th of May.

13. "I'm afraid due to the destructive nature of the forum, we have suspended support here." The answer I got from OW about MyBB.

"Who is Keoma Wright?
Keoma Wright is a revolutionary IT mogul, radio enthusiast and entrepreneur who is also a born and bred South African citizen. He has achieved a great many firsts in South African web technology in the whirlwind twenty seven years of his life.

It all started with Keoma’s first love – radio. During the period 2003 to 2005, Keoma worked as a radio DJ on KwaZulu-Natal’s hottest jazz radio station, the former P4 radio. He also performed voice overs for many of South Africa’s national brands at this time." - keoma.co.za

Keoma would have started Openweb Radio but it did not materialized yet.

We all dream... but some live in a dream it seem...

Thanks to this forum I have also seen the light/darkness regarding OW, cancellation sent (if not because of service, it is because of principle). Also got the 15% offer, said "no fanks" - going to give CW a bash

You have to give it to Openweb: they give their worst accounts the most exotic labels which does lure the fishes.

I'd say this is your best post out of 1895 ;)
Welcome to CW, and you WILL enjoy your stay :D

Thanks for all the detailed info PostmanPot. I always knew they were suspect just didn't realize how many other people were having the same problems I was having. For the problems I had today nobody even bothered getting back to me. At least this is just a home account. I can imagine how difficult it must be to run a business with this kind of service.

IF you go with openweb don't go uncapped... Get their capped unshaped accounts. There is literally no better account. I have tried them all.

Openweb capped unshaped accounts is the best out there right now. If you don't want to do Openweb then you can get it from Webafrica or FlowISP. Webafrica says their home capped accounts are actually shaped but I think they are just as good.

I am not a openweb fan especially when it comes to the uncapped accounts and alleged account sharing but damn they capped accounts are good. Miles ahead of telkom and sorry to say this but Afrihost and Axxess.

IS is the way to go if you want a very very good capped account.

With respect, putting money before values saddens me. If you were jobless or underpaid I'd understand.

You're indirectly assisting the wheel, which ****s over hundreds/thousands of people, to continue spinning.

My opinion.

For me when it comes to internet access it's only about 2 things. 1. Value for Money and 2. Performance...

If that is a bad way to think about it well that is your opinion which is great but for me it's all about the above 2 things.

Internet's serious business.

No single raindrop believes it is responsible for the flood.

One's got to look beyond their own situation and needs.

Sincerely hope you consider being less snoep.

Thanks cavedog and ZinSA for the warning. My eyes are opening now. I logged a call with them on monday morning(23rd feb). Till now they did not get back to me. When I sent them another email today to ask what is happening with that call they tell me to switch off my router for 30 mins to 're-establish your Telkom connectivity and reset your ports'. Why did they not tell me this 2 days ago? Is this not the height of pathetic customer services.
