Openweb Uncapped Feedback

I see there is a Telkom fault on the "Network notice" page with ETA listed as unknown.Has anyone received any updates on when this fault is likely to be fixed?
I'm on uncapped gold VB

Anyone else been having a slow day with torrents on the IS backbone? Most of my torrents are going at around 4-8kbs (384 line)

It seems like every few days I have to complain that my speed is down again, they reset my port and ask me to restart my router then it works properly again for a while. Then the cycle repeats.
I'm on OpenWeb GOLD uncapped, via IS.

These are just today's issues:

then they fixed it:

Then, within minutes, the speed dropped again:

This typically happens on a weekday, which leads me to believe its their shaping policies that are causing it. I have no issues at all after around 10PM. It's as if I have uncapped 4mbps that is actually uncapped 384k, with "after hours" 4mbps. sounds a lot like Cyber Smart's night rider

I've been flying on VB - I've noticed a few drops.... but nothing major. Currently sitting at 401KB/s.

I do think the package requires a bit of maintenance from the user side - constantly monitoring, etc...but other than that it still performs... still want to test the Afterhours account when I get some time.

I've experienced similar over the last 3 weeks or so but on the IS uncapped after hours with OW and IS Capped account with Afrihost. I suspected it had something to do with my line though. There been a number of issues in the area over the last couple of months due to the heavy rains. Norwood area...

They seem to be incapable of giving me a VB account.

This was my latest speedtest to a server in USA

And a few minutes later using the same line and same account, I did a speedtest in Durban: http://www.speedtest.net/result/1268309407.png

Hello,

If you are having a problem, please email [email protected] so that we can investigate.

Hi,
Support responded this morning, and switched me over to an AltechDSL account which seems to have much better speed:

local:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1268876218.png

international:
http://www.speedtest.net/result/1268874867.png

But ssl-eu.astraweb.com. is completely blocked (cant even ping)

Edit:
The Altech account will not news servers or torrents AT ALL so I've switched back to an IS account. Still no VB accounts available :(

International:

Hopefully the international access will speed up at night like it used to.

It seems like the Altech account may be good for everything else though
(I'm thinking its probably good for gamers who don't need to download anything)

hmm if it blocks p2p, how do you log in games that use p2p. like wow, i think altech should reconsider there packages even there business adsl is p2p blocked o.0

*blink* WoW doesn't use P2P. You're thinking of the launcher which, conveniently, has a settling to download via HTTP only.

I agree, the outright blocking of sites (Rapidshare/Megaupload) and P2P is really daft considering you pay premium to be able to have semi-shaped (read: not limited) access to the internet.

However, on that note, I don't use P2P or news servers and the occasions that I require to do so I can just switch over to my Afrihost account. A pity, but other than that, the Altech account is superb. I just take significant insult having my internet filtered for me :)

hmmm can you log in fine with altech? as then they probably see game and allow it.

I don't have issues logging in, no :p

And as things stand, I'm not giving up this connection any time soon. Thing stream beautifully, Skype works like a bomb and WoW latency (with a little assistance) sits between 250-300ms.

Yay Altech! Now just for them to unblock the internet -.-'

Guys, see Openweb is doing a "384k Uncapped, Shaped for only R129 per month" is this worth going for ? Take it I will not be able to do P2P and just basic browsing?

Terms of account

* Shaped: (P2P, torrents and similar services are given the lowest priority on the network)

You will be able to do P2P and torrents but chances are it has an Acceptable use policy.

Rather go for the Gold package. You can DL as much as your line can handle. No P2P or torrents on certain backbones though.
