Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Same here - Still Crawling along at 10 Kbps, It can't be an ADSL line problem , a friend of mine at MWEB is doing 52 Kbps from Rapidshare on a 384 K line!,
I tried his account on my 384 K line... and I get 40-50 KBPS... switch back to openweb... back to 10-12 Kbps downloading from Rapidshare.

It would help if people identified what account they are on, and what service they are using.

EVEN if you are on the Gold Uncapped package, p2p / Rapidshare / News Servers / Torrents will STILL be throttled, everything ELSE is unshaped.

I still don't understand why people complain about torrent speeds when they KNOW it's being shaped, it's in the terms and conditions. If it's FTP or HTTP, or even SMTP traffic sure, but whenever I browse on my 512k Gold uncapped, say to Youtube I max out instantly.

You really need to learn to read the terms and conditions, moaning about torrent / rapidshare speeds is getting old now, if you want a TRUE uncapped / unshaped product that will give you MAX speed on every download service you use, fork out the R2k and GET yourself a platinum unshaped / uncapped account.

Bloody hell people, you can't have your cake AND eat it.

Forward cover

I have mailed my cancellation notice this morning for End of June 2010.

I am happy with Openweb. I have been using a trial account on their new network and it is really great.

I just don't want to be exposed at the end of June if this transfer of accounts to the new network don't happen or if the new network is bad.

Don't know what your guys view are?

MrBEEP can confirm, the move is defenitely happening, Openweb is moving away from IS as their upstream provider.

I have been on the "new" upstream provider since the last week of April, and have not had any problems, my suggestion would be to hold off another month to see what happens.

Why cancel though, who are you moving to? I will stay with them untill either the service I as a customer recieve from Openweb deteriorates (which is unlikely to happen as Openweb actually care about their customers).

I've said it before, but allow me to say it again, I don't mind paying a bit of a premium for a "better" service that's always on, uncapped and suits my browsing / internet habits.

As I indicated, I am also very happy, but due to their cancellation policy, I will have to wait till end of July if I am not happy with the new network...So I am just making sure I have an exit strategy.

Not sure where I will be going. Probably buy Afrihost 20 gigs + 20 gigs? Not sure. My original Openweb account was useless. Then I got an trial account on the new network. That has been great so far...not sure it will last once everyone gets onto it...

Quite a few people are on the new upstream provider network as far as I know, MrBEEP will be able to tell us more, but the simple fact that we are moving AWAY from IS is a good step.

I doubt many other ISP's are moving to the new Upstream provider so I don't think it should be too much of an issue (of course this is just my opinion after all :P )

Yeah SlicK, the problem is not that it is shaped or slow during the day, it is freaken standing still at midnight. I am not complaining about torrents, i know it will work fine after hours and be shaped during the day i am fine with that. But clearly there is something damn wrong if RS does not even start 11 o clock at night. Especially if it worked perfectly up until 2 nights ago. So please get off your freaken high horse, i am sick of paying for crap that works fine till the moon over Jupiter sets then all of a sudden it stops working.

I know about shaping and throtteling and all other crap we in this country have to deal with, this is not what i am on about. It is about something that worked OK, that has now stopped working at all.

@ BlackJack1301,

If you read my post carefully, you'd see I wasn't pointing finger at anybody, but seeing as you felt it was aimed at you let me elaborate :

I was saying people who moan about SLOW speeds, should catch a wake up, having NO traffic from a downloading service (be it torrents, p2p or Rapidshare) at ALL is something ENTIRELY different. Please show me where in my post did I say "if you aren't getting any speeds shut-up" ? I didn't, nor did I refer to anything of the sort.

If it has stopped working have you tried investigating what could be the cause ? It's easy to say "my internets is not working" but it could be your router, or another piece of software on your pc hogging the available bandwith, hell it could be a port that's blocked by a firewall or any number of different reasons, simply jumping the gun and pointing fingers at the ISP isn't the right thing to do.

Clearly if you are not getting any speed from Rapidshare or whatever downloading system you use, get in contact with MrBEEP and I'm sure he'll assist. My vent was rather directed at people who don't take the time to try and UNDERSTAND the situation we are in, and simply point fingers at ISP's as being the culprit.

Oh and by the way, I'm not on any High Horse, I was stating my opinion, if you don't like it it's fine lol.

I'm not being condescending, I'm too busy thinking about far more important things you wouldn't understand... :)

Yeah, i tried those things, is why i came to a forum to see if i am the only one with RS problems.

On my 384k Gold account I can't seem to get more than 12 KB/s at the moment. I'm busy downloading via Megaupload, anyone else get the same type of speeds on 384k gold account ? Seems like they're shaping Rapidshare, MU quite heavily now. It wasn't like this 2-3 days ago. :(

512 gold account

Hi guys,

Does anybody have the 512 Gold Account? What is your speeds on Astraweb?

@StoneCold
I can confirm that I am having EXACTLY the same situation as you - can't get anything more then 14 KB/s - This is HIGHLY dissapointing since I based my choice of ISP on initial tests and 30-40 Kbps vs the price was acceptable - but 14... is definetely not - especially since there was no notice given, and every other ISP's speed seems to be fine!.

Hello Friends,

Please, I beg of you, email me if you are having a problem. The problems experiences are isolated. Let us resolve them. The network hasn't crashed, or exploded, or became extremely slow in the last few days. There is an isolated fault that I can only find if I have your ADSL username and the fault.

I would really appreciate it if you could email me the details so that we can resolve it: [email protected]

Thank you!
