Mornings all,

MrBEEP what time can the users, who have switched from the IS Accounts to Mweb Gold Uncapped acccounts, expect their new login details?

Thanks

Most users should have their details already.

We are waiting to assign another batch.

Sadly, not so great for me. Getting a wonderful 424 bytes/sec off rapidshare on a 95mb file. Should be done in the next 27 hours.

Good times indeed.

:(

Do only Gold members (heh heh) get switched over to the new network?

Sigh. 5:30pm and I can't even watch a Youtube video without waiting 10 goddamn years for it to buffer. IS and their shaping FTL.

Not so impressed with gold network so far.

I am getting about 50KB/s at 19:45 off astraweb. with about 12KB/s an hour or two ago.

I was hoping it would be better considering the premium of R200 that is being paid. Overall I am not much happier than when I was paying less :/

GEEZ I was busy going through the online signup and got told at the end to use my existing email address and first login. Just as well I logged into gmail else I'd not have seen this post! Thanks for the feedback. I use Astraweb extensively and this is disappointing to say the least! I was hoping to at least get near to full line speed (weird how we now settle for crap speeds) seeing as it's going to cost R200 more for the account. If it means more money just to be able to browse the web at full line speed then no thanks!

To be honest I'm not impressed either. I'm on an Mweb Gold Uncapped account since earlier this morning. Browsing was fairly fast this morning, has gone down considerably since 7pm. Download speeds...wait what's a download, oh yes.. I forgot that I'm only downloading at a maximum of 5-10KB/s, both locally and internationally, how AWESOME is that ? Since the past saturday, that's the speeds that I have had to live with, and will have to live with till 12 July. Why till that specific date you may ask. Well my exchange is running WAY over capacity and is getting raped by 4mb subscribers, thanks to Mweb who started this uncapped revolution in our country. So many thanks to Mweb for not only bringing affordable uncapped accounts, but for also killing my 384 connection, which is now utterly useless till after the world cup is over before they can upgrade the capacity at my exchange.

Last night and earlier this morning I also had awesome speeds of 253 - 453 bytes/sec. So anyone here who complains of slow speeds of 50KB/s, that's nothing compared to what I have to live with the next 6 weeks. I highly doubt it has to do with the accounts we use, sometimes it might be the account itself, but Telkom is also to blame here for overloaded exchanges that won't get any attention till the world cup is over, that is.. if they do upgrade and give attention to those specific exchanges.

Anyhow, that's my rant for the day ;)

I am just going to double check my router, firewall and nix box, see if there is any other reason for the slow download speed.

I might have over looked something obvious.

I had awesome speed today. I am currently using the Mweb 4Mbps account (via Openweb), although I only have time to try it around 6pm today after work, the experience compared to I/S 4Mbps uncapped is much more pleasant.

My I/S account speed will only start picking up after 7pm every day and if I am lucky I get over 200k/s (same goes for the weekends). But the Mweb account, HTTP download (not BT, not Rapidshare, just normal HTTP download) since 6pm tonight is 400k/s.

I'm using Downstorm for my torrent downloads on OpenWeb uncapped. Am getting 420K+ on the downloads to my pc. http://www.downstorm.co.za

When I try direct downloads, the standard account is not doing too well, but gold is sitting at about 150K+

Cyberarmy, I think guys like you, who experience excellent speeds and results don't sit with an overloaded exchange running over 100% capacity like I do. I think a lot of people will be surprised to learn that its their exchanges that don't have adequate capacity to sustain a favorable download rate, instead of blaming their accounts or the ISP itself. Be thankful for what you have, you're making me very jealous :(

Lucky you, I never get over 400k/s via my IS based Openweb 4Mbps account from downstorm. I am only getting this speed from the Mweb one.

It's not the exchange when another account, ie: SAIX gives full speed. I'm not griping about luxury internet services, like say - Astraweb or Torrents.

My main gripe with OW/IS is the utter complete speeds to sites like Youtube, even like I said earlier, after 5pm and it took about half an hour to stream a 15min TED talk is just not on. Also, a 30KB/s max during the day is a bit rubbish IMO since this wasn't stated on their page when signing up.

Hehe, I was told by the Telkom technician the exchange box is just outside of our walls.

But seriously, 2-3 year ago when I first applied for ADSL, I was told there's no capacity at my exchange, which at the end I went for Wireless route (predecessor of Screamer Telecom).

Well, in that case, my theory is then only true for some people. No matter what type of account I use, my speed remains the same. :wtf:

Hello nihilist,

Please PM me so that I can see what is wrong with your account.

Kind regards
MrBEEP
