Openweb Uncapped Feedback

that was by credit card i assume :/

and afrihost have to be the worst ever anyway, took them 2 months to cancel a normal account, then they still billed me after it was cancelled :/

Nope. Debit order. I've had a couple of accounts with them (R29 ones--a 20GB, and two 5GBs) and then finally a 384 uncapped which was simply abysmal after I hit 15GBs, so I switched to OpenWeb. I've been very happy with OpenWeb and their support so far. But I tend to sign up and cancel accounts fairly often, so needing to give an actual 30 days notice before cancelling is... erm... new to me. Even when I used my old TelkomInternet accounts, I could cancel a day or two before the end of the month without worrying.

It's mostly because when I cancel, it's an out of the blue decision based on what I feel is best at the time, so that flexibility is a huge plus. Not having that flexibility is a bit of an impairment... At least I know now.

Surprisingly, I never had an issue with Afrihost's billing or their network. In fact, I loved their control panel, the amount of information you could get about your usage, their support was decent... The first knock was when they locked the uncapped account to the phone number it was first accessed by (I'm currently staying with parentals for a while, and I have no intention of giving my account(s) to them) and the second was when I hit 15GBs and an already ridiculously slow 384kbps line had its speed halved. Just pissed on my batteries. Cancellation, as always, went perfectly smoothly. So I'll grant them that at least. Oh, and the third and final nail in the coffin was the sudden lack of response from Gian on MyBB at the time :)

I feel what OpenWeb lacks in transparency (with regard to a control panel akin to the likes of WebAfrica, Afrihost, Nexus, etc) they make up for in support. To me, that means the world, especially since nothing is as foul as being left in the dark and not being given any information when you feel you need it.

But oh well...

So far my Gold account through Vodacom Business is simply amazing. Torrents are an absolute fail though; fortunately I don't use them much at all, but everything else runs smooth as silk. OpenWeb FTW :)

MrBeep sent me new details late last night, thanks for burning the midnight oil for us!

What actually happened?

IS shaping is quite bad during most of the day, HTTP download from overseas server is around 60k/s at 11 last night, this morning around 6 I got 400k/s, now after 7 it's sub 100 again.

I am quite disappointed... Since I signed up half a month ago I have been unable to get my full line speed (384). All my downloads sit at around 20kb/s (late at night), and 15kb/s(during the day). This is over http. I don't even want to imagine what torrents or any other protocol would be like. I tested my line on another account, from another ISP and was able to get the full speed of my line (~40kb/s). What can I do to get it working properly? Any help would be appreciated...

It's great that you get some service there. I get the usual "go away" emails from him. I was a big Openweb supporter, but will have to reconsider.

WTF! what about the rest of us? Quite unfair is you ask me

Hey Friends,

I have space for 5 x OpenWeb 4Mbps clients in the Gold beta. It will be a 24 hour trial run.

Please email me your username, and I will upgrade you.

Gold doesnt have 1 x particular backbone. It runs on the backbone that we feel performs the best that month. It has lower contention ratios, and less shaping as well.

What is the difference between gold and normal? Does gold share another backbone like SAIX?

I would've tried it, but am away from tomorrow till Monday. My concern is also that the guys that are on the lower speed gold accounts seem to have speed problems as well just by looking at some posts here on MyBB

Those were faults that have since been resolved. Gold is currently running superbly, like it mostly does.
