Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Hi,

First of all I want to say that I’ve been a faithful Openweb customer and have been very satisfied with most of their services (after-hours uncapped and normal capped packages).

However, the new uncapped packages disappointed me greatly. April was a disaster- but I reasoned that the whole uncapped scene is very new to everyone, including the ISP’s, maybe they just need some time to sort it all out.

As the loyal customer I am, I decided to stick with them. May started off great, with torrents around 50KB/s during day and high burstable speeds (200 – 300KB/s) during night. HTTP and other protocols were even better- which goes without saying. When I exceeded +/- 15 GB everything came to a halt. Torrents never go over 30KB/s at night and during day it’s around 19KB/s. HTTP also very slow.

This got me thinking. Is there absolute no sort of threshold implemented? When the contention ratio is in play, the speed should be able to spike ever now and then- relative to the user pool usage. I know that there are a lot of people running torrents during the night but it doesn’t mean it’s all of the pool’s users. It doesn’t make sense that I’m getting the same speeds at 4am and 8pm or does the pool size grow/shrink with time.

I know there are a lot of elements that play a role in “speed”, but I think when anyone signs up for an uncapped broadband account they at least expect to get “broadband”. What I am getting is more like ISDN on steroids. All I’m asking is bit more technical explanation of how the things are working and what I can expect from the service.

Nonetheless, I want to thank Openweb for the effort they are putting in, I been following this thread for a while and It’s obvious that they are trying to improve and give us the best value for our money.

Kind regards

Roll on end of the month PLeaaaaase :(

Speed on IS, well at least the OW uncapped is always utter rubbish during office hours.

I really hope the new network OW are going to use come June 1st will fix this issue.

Please PM me nihilist with your ADSL username.

I would like to see what is wrong on this account.

My experiences with the 512k Gold Uncapped thusfar have been truly excellent.

What I like about Openweb is even in crappy Broadband situation we are in, they are making the best of a bad scenario, and offering VERY good customer service aswell!

Kudo's to MrBEEP!

This is an IS problem through and through they are throttling everyone! Our office uses Adept 4Mbp uncapped and we have the same speeds constantly through the day! And we only use it to browse and download e-mail!

Lovely how IS can $crew the consumers and get away with it! At least Openweb are the only one that have tried to help their client base with issues!

So is the uncapped accounts performing ok after the horrible weekend. On telkom at the moment waiting till the 1st June so no idea whats up with the uncapped accounts.

Nope any uncapped account with IS is pathetic. Kudo's to MrBEEP fo at least attending to their clients needs, unlike other ISP's out there! Well done MrBEEP!

You guys still having very slow speed today? I know we got a mail about a line fault last night, but seemed to be crawling for me still this morning?

EXTREMELY slow rapidshare

I'm on Openweb uncapped - I frequently download off Rapidshare - last week and during the weekend - I was getting speeds of around 30-50 Kpbs, but from yesterday - I can't seem to get
any higher then 16 kbps, is there a problem somewhere?

Is that with an gold account or IS based account ? If its gold, I have the same problem as well.

IS based - I was going to upgrade to Gold next month, but if you're experiencing the same problem - it's slightly worrying.

My Gold is running at FULL speed here! I am glad I upgraded. Makes a huge difference

I am also on gold and yes same for me, was running perfectly till Sunday then it started giving problems, but since last night it is almost standing still, so dunno? Browsing seems okish, but RS is worrying...

Could be due to this.

Hey Friends,

Just a quick note to let you know that there is currently an international network fault causing slower speeds for all ADSL users.

International engineers are attending. It has not been revealed to us yet the exact cause of the problem. We have however been informed that the problem is being addressed.

Vitals:

ETA: 4 hours
Cause: Unknown at present
Whom is experiencing a problem: All ADSL users trying to access international content.

We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. If we could get some donations, we would like to install our own undersea cables. (Just kidding :) Good idea though!!)

Kind regards

Well RS speed is still nonexistent, been like this for 2 days now. Browsing and everything else seems to be better now. How are your RS speeds?
