Openweb Uncapped Feedback

You get 20kB on mweb, so 100 seems like quite a jump... 5 times faster during the day...

I suppose when you put it that way

Edit - but it's still some way away from the heady days

I only get 35K during the day on p2p/encrypted traffic, how are you getting that? News server?

Is anyone else getting the following problem:

I am on the after hours uncapped 4mb openweb account, i cant do any kind of online gaming for an extended period of time, get disconnected after maybe 3hours, which is really REALLY freaken annoying, i've had my line checked by telkom, i've emailed openweb, and they dont seem to be aware or care to fix the issue as this has been going on since the beginning of december. I tried a mweb 384 shaped account and it works ALOT better than openweb, can actually play some games without being frustrated, so i KNOW its an ISP issue, want to know if i'm the only one???

the after hours is only 192kbs during the day, which could be to little for gaming, needs when game go over 192kbs you will get a dc.

Nope, thats not it, happens at night all the time and over weekends when its 4mb the whole time, it use to be fine, it only started happening end of Nov and all through dec and still going on now, so something went wrong somewhere, nobody can tell me where though, thx for reply anyways.

aha damn :(
then me.beep needs to sort you out :)

thouhg if you only have 4mb, you should go with openweb gold , should be better :)

Yeah, got the after hours one for the whole unshaped thing, will have to wait till next month now to try the gold shaped one (unshaped too much R there) and see if it goes better :/

My bad speeds (below 100KB/s) are back again - I think its time I move back to capped - I can't spend R738 on an account like this.

EDIT 20:15 - I'm using an IS based Openweb account which runs at around or below 100KB/s - then I switched to the Afrihost free 1GB account, and its currently sitting at 320KB/s for the last five minutes... isn't Afrihost also IS?

EDIT 20:30 - Afrihost has been running at a constant 380KB/s for the last 15min, I've just switched back to Openweb Gold... will report in another 15min.

EDIT 20:45 - Openweb also running fine again.... occasional speed dips, but nothing below 200KB/s.

EDIT 21:45 - Currently fluctuating between 150KB/s and 250KB/s

I don't know anymore. I'll report back nearer bed time.

Yeah Im also finding this uncapped thing rather frustrating, just bear in mind, on a Afrihost capped account R738 only buys you 25 or so gigs, lol! OpenWeb definitely has improved HTTP/YouTube performance than MWeb but seems to only really give you good download speeds from about 12AM - 8AM (which is very similar on both sides), Im waiting to see what the weekend brings tho... but heres an average of my download speeds over the last few days:

http://www.otakud.co.cc/downloads/graphs.jpg

There is a strange spike around 11AM-12PM in the afternoon on OpenWeb but most afternoons result in 100-200MB/hr. I am downloading using FTPES/P2P and my household also uses a lot of streaming sites. I have absolutely no complaints with gaming on OpenWeb and am actually very pleased with that side of things. MWeb also have some days where they avg 1.1GB/hr the whole day but also other days where u get almost nothing! The biggest problem I have with MWeb is that HTTP/YouTube dont perform well which is a deal breaker for me and most of my household. The averages are 13.1 per day for OpenWeb and 18.6 for Mweb, so throughput seems a bit in MWebs favour... But its most certainly not consistent!

To be fair, the MWeb stats were pulled during December so the network was doing pretty well back then, also OpenWeb had a bit of a rock start until I was switched over to a different network. Right now tho Im downloading at 84K (On Vodacom???) which isnt bad but I would have liked more for this time of the evening. One thing OpenWeb do have tho is fantastic service so Im hoping these are just teething problems. In any rate there isnt enough info yet to make any conclusive decision as to whether that extra R200 is worth its weight, time will tell tho!

I agree with you OtakuD, openwebs service and support is excellent, why i'm hopeing my problem gets sorted, i would prefer to stay with them.

I'm still very pleased with Openweb 4meg Gold, working like a charm since I got it in August. September was a not so good month for my usage, but good every month afterwards and in December I almost had no shaping, cause of holidays I guess. Working good so far this month, very much worth the few extra bucks I pay per month. Also thanks for great service Mr. Beep.

I'm also very pleased with my 4MB gold uncapped account. The last one I got from Mr.Beep has been performing solidly in comparison with the previous ones and I get my 4MB speeds 24/7 and that is good value for money. I just hope it will stay that way for the future. :)

Got my account switch and its doing great now, thanks Mr Beep! :)

Same here, today has been great since the account switch, thanks a lot Mr Beep :)
