Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Just to confirm here, OpenWeb Uncapped accounts are download as much as you want, when you want, for as long as you want?

Subject to any shaping that is applied. But at least you don't have do the ISP's network management for them or adhere to an "everything is stacked against you, so damn well behave yourself" AUP.

More or less. You not going to get full line speed on all protocols 24/7 but you will get minimum 50% most of the time. Personally on my 10mb line I use the after hours uncapped account @ R899 per month. Last 6 months I've averaged around 300gb's with 460gb's in December, hardly any issues, no letters or warnings or nonsense, just 10mbps.... :D

Not sure of the volumes guys are doing on the gold accounts. Maybe some users can post their stats...

Sure Killa will do close to 300gb's this month for us... :)

Hell yea, i have already done 15 20 gb :D. Although this was a back log because mweb so bloody slow haha.

I actually will do more like 150gb though, all i wanted was an account that would allow downloading and surfing at good speed, mweb i have to throttle my downloads to 40 or 50k in order to surf nicely. With openweb i throttle the downloads at 200 when i am surfing. I surf so much so it is almost 5 times the speed .

0kbs down on P2P... on Altech, crossover to Mweb.. 170Kbps down..

But 0Kb? are u kidding me ?

Altech is not a network for torrents. This is a decision made to benefit folks like killa whom enjoys video streaming and super fast HTTP downloads.

If this network does not suit you, you can request a different network. Email [email protected]

MrBEEP as a "heavy downloader" according to Mweb, will the standard uncapped be acceptable for me when I make the switch? I average 400GB a month...

I averaged 400GBs a month when I was on Gold for anyone that's interested...

4Mbps IS backbone, mostly torrents.

Okay so it looks like my Gold account has been disabled.
I contacted MrBEEP ([email protected]) as some suggested and he has indicated to me that I need to make payment for July's access and that my June account has expired due to their calendar month billing.

Whats p*ssing me off is:

1. When I orginally paid the R599 for a new Openweb Gold unshaped uncapped account on 22 June the sales guy told me that because I purchased the account so late in the mouth that the R599 would be credited as my July payment yet I'm sitting without a working ADSL account which I paid for upfront.

2. From MrBEEP's emails I'm getting the impression that due to their calendar month billing I'm now expected to shell out another R599 for July's access when on 22 June I already paid for a full calendar months use but it was actually only valid for 8 days? What about other people who've purchased an Openweb account half-way through the month? Are they expected to pay for a full calendar month as well?!

Maybe I'm getting the wrong impression here (and hopefully he can give me some extra feedback on the matter) but I'm rather annoyed right now.

Sorry but is that enough? Sounds a bit low to me, how did you get gold for 600 smackers?

Did you use the account on the 22 june? Perhaps there is a pro rata thing going.

Okay MrBEEP has sorted me out. Account working again.

Thanks a lot for the help MrBEEP!

Much appreciated!

Firstly... it is Sunday... perhaps Keoma should take note and a) try to relax b) get some time off !

Secondly... pjjdp... in what way is VB better then your BCS backbone ? Something noticeable or just related to news server / torrents ?

Thanks to Keoma, he just switched me(15minutes ago) from BCS to VB. Much better.

Can some people with past experience on the IS network please comment what they thought about it? also please give some details on the IS shaping.
I need reliable HTTP 24/7 but also make use of torrents after business hours, and it seems like the only gold network that supports torrents is IS?
in the past, there have been so many complaints about IS, that I am not sure what to expect from them.

also the people on the after hours 10mb, could you please give some feedback about the upload speed during business hours, and how your overall performance is during business hours?

Thanks alot.
