Anyone know what the @openweb backbone is?

I was on the 1mb gold Vodacom backbone and everything was slow so I emailed Openweb and they changed me over to the IS backbone. It flew over the weekend at full speed. On Monday during work hours Rapidshare, Megaupload etc go to a max of 2Kb/s and then disconnects. Torrents the same. Its taking 40 minutes to download a 8mb email, some web pages are taking 3 to 5minutes to load 1 page. At about 5pm it picks up to a max of 60 Kb/s. I don't mind the shaping on the torrents and megaupload etc during the day but that's its affecting my surfing and emails is a problem. The strange part is when I do a speed test it shows that my line is running at 1mb speed. Anyone else having problems with their emails and surfing speed on the IS backbone?
I don't want to write negative things about Openweb. Overall I've been very happy with Openweb Gold and their service is unmatched. When I've had a problem it normally gets sorted out in no time. It's just been this past month since I've had these speed problems like this. I'm going to see if it improves by tomorrow.
Anyone using GOLD PLUS. Is that any good?
Steam doesn't really have a problem since a lot of the traffic is local.
The VB backbone is fine if all you want to do is download directly from international sites but you can't download torrents and its prone to huge lag spikes every few minutes.
Hey Hey
I am also on the I.S. OW backbone and it has been virtually unusable for most of the day, from around 9AMish to around 7PMish it is proving difficult to do anything but browse. As with you, email, anti-virus / windows updates etc are all frustratingly slooooooooooow. Skype is a no-go, but TeamViewer works... go figure! Downloads are impossible as they do not exceed 2kBs... or time-out. After 7 it begins to normalise, and then from around 11PM it seems to be full speed again until the dwindle down and choke at 7AM again.
My speedtests are also showing close to my 384 line speed, this seems to be exempt from this throttling.
This past weekend was wonderful... yesterday and today abysmal, evenings fine.. I am wanting to see what the rest of this week is like on I.S. before I email MrBEEP, who has been fantastic thus far.
Meh. Internet's dead as a dodo. 5 min later, back up. Now it's dead again. My router says connected, but no throughput![]()
I had the same last night. Downloads stalling, speeds running from between 20%-100% capacity. Don't know where it's Filesonic, IDM or Openweb and IS....?? Bloody inconsistent but still sweeeet....
Used to be on the VB network, then something changed that i couldn't route to VB anymore, so had to change to OW IS. Now Netload D/L's time out. Does anyone know what Warez servers work with IS?Mine's been like this for the past two days now. Started on Monday sometime. All protocols are like this- http, ftp, even games and TeamSpeak are erratic.
Hi Friends,
There was a Telkom backbone issue causing total loss of connectivity for some clients. We apologize for this.
The network is starting to come back on now. Please reboot your router to achieve full speed.
Kind regards
MrBEEP
How is VB for gaming, like WoW and local
Umm... I'm a bit of a noob here but using torrents on a 384 kbps line what speed should I be expecting?
With my 384 on IS backbone I if the torrent was properly seeded I could get the same download speed on a torrent as I did with a direct download. If your on the VB backbone, you will be lucky to get more than 4-6kbs
