Openweb Uncapped Feedback

Will have a look tonight how the 1mb DL runs, if its bad I will look into gold.

I switched over from using a Gold 384K account for the past year and a half to the Gold 1mb PLUS account to test if its any good, and I have not had to email Keoma even once. I am ridiculously happy at the moment and might just go debit order route. Good speed during the day on NNTP, opens up massively at night too, very chuffed.

Unfortunately, due to Telkom refusing to do any sort of upgrades in my area (Randburg) I am limited to 384 only. So I feel speed differences keenly. Yesterday things were fairly speedy on uncapped Gold, today I can only load gmail on the basic version. I am on the VB backbone. At night its okish, during the day my speeds are horrible and plagued by timeouts. Telkom or Openweb? I don't know. Telkom says it's my ISP. Openweb says it is Telkom. Oh how I would love a 1mb line. At least then when it is slow, it will still be faster than this.

what is the reason?

no ports avaible?
over congested exchange?
or do you stay to far away from the exchange?
or is that just the max the exchange can work at .

Distance.....there is a closer exchange (Sharonlea) but the box I am connected to is way across Randburg (6kms away). My exchange is a superfast one, just super far away. It feels so bizzare as I am just across the road from a guy that can get 4mb speeds.

Just on the side, I would like to say that I am very happy with Openweb, I'm on a normal STD account and the service I get is great!! Thanks Openweb. I am on a 1mb line and its very stable, would seems like 4mb guys have more problems.

@Imagine, you sure your Telkom is 100%? Most of the time my problems are with them and the overloaded exchange.

I would think it would, I was on IS and very happy with it, going to BCS backbone now with 1mb, will keep you updated.

I wish I knew if it was Telkom. They deny it of course, and I am more likely to believe Keoma before I believe Telkom. If only Openweb took care of the lines as well.

Asked MrBeep this question:

How does this Telkom backbone faults work exactly?

Scenario:

"Bob and Koos are on the same exchange, and they live about within 10km from each other. Bob has no problems with his OpenWeb account. But Koos on the other hand, experiences slow download speeds, high latency. Bob and Koos switch to a backup account, everything is fine - full line speed , low latency. They switch back to their OpenWeb accounts and Koos suffers again with the same problem."

Answer:
All ADSL traffic goes over Telkoms network. If they have a problem it will affect us as well.

What I don't understand: Why does Koos suffer on the IS backbone, but Bob, who is also on the same backbone have no problem? They are on the same exchange, so they would be effected in the same way if the backbone is the same?

Shouldn't they get the same results? Is this the difference between Gold Uncapped and the other Uncapped packages?

I have no grudge towards anyone. I am just trying to understand how Telkom and backbone faults work - how 2 users on the same backbone (IS) and same exchange experience different connectivity.

+1...i am also wondering ...got two exact same accounts from Openweb...sometimes 1 works perfectly...sometimes the other one...sometimes both...sometimes...none....

:)

Is the Openweb uncapped Gold account supposed to be totally dead during office hours? Today is the first time in a quite a while that I was at home during office hours and this account is absolutely unusable.

17:00 and wham. Magically my speed goes up from 6kbs to 100kbs.

Damn SA internet -_- Useless to have internet thats pretty much useless during the day. At times I'm lucky and it spikes to 34kbs...

Mine is still dead. Very frustratng to be on Gold and not getting any quality. I constantly have to get a port reset and new accounts etc.

I just want an account that works most of the time

Perhaps i am paying for Gold and getting std, cause this week has been exceptionally poor

I upgraded from 384 STD to 1bm STD now, and I can not DL anymore :(...sucks. They changed me from a IS to BCS backbone.
