I wouldn't say 180 is bad during office hours? On an IS account you'd be sitting at 8KB/s?

True hey, I had an IS account not too long ago and it was struggling at 120kb/s max and wouldn't even go higher than that the whole day. Suppose I will be happy for the time being with 200-300, but if it doesn't pick up during the week, I'd have to mail MrBeep.

What I just can't understand, how these accounts can perform so brilliantly for 2-3 weeks and then you hit a bad patch and download at speeds that are at least 150kb/s slower than what one is normally used to :(

Sorry to say i will have to leave OW. :( . Can't use VB, and IS is useless during the day. Have to go back to Capped. Eish. Had such a good run with VB in the beginning.

Sorry to hear that :(

Been with OW for just over a year now and I'm actually pretty happy.
The 24h restarts on VB is really annoying (it usually happens when I'm busy with a non-resumable session such as certain downloads or rdp sessions) but I've actually gotten decent speeds on it, more so than IS or BCS.

I'm at 250 now... :) Almost caught up what CoachPotato built up over yesterdays down time.

Is there any other backbone with a free usenet server besides IS?

I don't know if this is coincidence but with regards to shaping on a Openweb Gold 384k I.S account, everytime i switch my router and PC on for the first time,my P2P speeds are in the upper thirties.

As soon as i browse the Internet or do anything else the speed drops to 10k or less, and the speeds never return(Not even at night).
I can reboot the router and PC or leave it off awhile, but the torrent does not return to the upper thirties unless i switch on my PC and modem the next day and continue downloading.

I doubt its my router as my free gig from another provider is always full speed and my torrents are all well seeded.

Is this merely coincidental or is this how shaping works?

Been with them on Gold for about a year aswell. My work takes preference, and i need the reliability and speed i had on VB, but alas, i'm stuck with IS, so back to the drawing board...

Altech might be the option for you.

VB backbone is very bad tonight. Last week for a couple of days I had amazing speeds. This week bleh.

Sorta good to know I'm not the only one.

Also sucks that vb is running slow

Here's a nice illustration of my problems with my 1mb Gold account (compared to my WA prepaid account).

These measurements between accounts were done about an hour ago and are within minutes of each other.

Clearly my issue is not Telkom related. Something dodgy is on the go with OW download shaping.

These results are optimistic as well. During "working hours" my pings on OW are far higher and I'm lucky to get 0.1Mbps from international sites or NNTP. I'll repeat the tests tomorrow morning again.

For the first time in 48 hours, my download speed is going like a boss \ :D /

Klapping 450kb/s+ just hope it's here to stay and that I'm not back to sub 250kb/s speeds again tomorrow morning :(

EDIT: Something isn't right. HTTP downloads are running at 35kb/s, where they normally run 300-400, NNTP also went down again...sigh.

Time to email MrBeep in the morning.

After hoping between backbones, am running stable now finally last 4 days from 250-420KB/s. Don't want to jinx the backbone so until i have reason to complain, hush hush lol. Its no BCS though ;-)

I find not using the PC helps make her grab more GBs than usual :D.

So i won't be hitting that Download goal listed earlier because of BF3 :D...oh well...

Edit: congrats SC, 1500 posts woooo
