Openweb Uncapped Gold Backbones

Bit of a noob question, but which would sites like File Sonic/File Serve/Megupload fall under?

I'd only be using those to download (not News Servers), so what would be the best backbone for me (full line speed during relaxed times)? Or is it a no go?

Edit: Add steam to the list of download places. It's only been one day of the summer sale and already I need 35GB to download. :P

So just to summarise, if you want your NNTP Newsdemon on SSL to be used then the VB is the best or is it just a matter of changing between the VB and Altech BB?

Just before i splosh out some money want to get confirmation :)

Btw, i like this thread and if it is updated on a daily / weekly basis it will help all of us banned from *web (the name we shall not speak off) lol :D
 
Well i am using altech and right now i am doing 250k on newsdemon ssl, 45 on a http download and surfing.

Newsdemon could run at about 385 on the altech backbone for me. Not sure if this helps but altech is awesome for newsdemon
 
I was moved to IS overnight. Pretty much everything I've tried (NNTP, HTML, SSH, P2P) has been sweet and kids are very happy with WoW. Early days though. I'm keen to see how things are during business hours. As long as things don't get shaped down to a crawl, I could be v happy on IS Gold.

As far as i can tell pirate stuff is shaped fairly badly on the altech network during the day, i would imagine the same will apply to IS. I am not sure about gaming but http works great, just the pirate networks that are a bit slow which is fine as i only use it for work stuff anyhow but do let me know because there will come a time when i want to game during the day with bf 3 being released shortly. It would be nice to know if i will need another account for that or not during the day
 
I was moved to IS last night due to the fact that i was getting 0kbps for torrents the whole weekend. Since ive moved to IS torrents have been flying. Thanks Mr Beep.
 
I JUST asked to be moved to IS. I sent the email at 10:43am. I got the new login details at 10:45am. And take note...all this on a SUNDAY!
Awesome stuff.
 
Just insane. How dare MrBeeps offer service like that on a Sunday morning!! How are the competitors supposed to compete with that??!!! I think he should be reported to the competitions board!!!

altech a total beast for all http stuff. when i first moved over even during the day i was getting as much as 150kB/s on nntp. Two weeks ago this had fallen to about 30kB/s - 50kB/s during the day. evenings would move into 250s and into late night move towards 400+.
 
Well if you use leeching sites with file sharing sites like rapid share ,file sonic ,fileserve ,mega upload ect ect ect then it counts as a HTTP download but dont abuse the system too much now. PM me and I'll recommend some "Leeching sites" for you guys who dont use torrents or news groups

But I've only heard bad things about IS and it's amazing star rating.

Any idea what isn't going to get me into the top 20%? Kinda hoping for a 50-100gb range (of course the latter being just a guide and not what I'd actually do... hopefully :P)

That star rating crap is only for the cheap IS accounts. The GOLD accounts don't have star ratings. Just good internet.

Don't download torrents, rather get a seedbox if you want to use torrents.

I'm using a Seedbox and had shaping issues with downloading after hours, e-mailed Keoma and the throttling to my Seedbox's IP was lifted.

I'm getting full speed after hours on a IS based Gold account (ftp/http downloads).

Out of all the Backbones IS is probably the best after hours, no peering issues and I get full speed on everything steam/youtube/http/ftp and low ping local (sub 15ms).

Usually around 6:30PM in the evenings and From Fridays around the same time till Monday Morning 7AM'ish.

I have a 6mb line and am actually getting full speed (640kb/sec) when I dl.

Thanx for the info. Where do i get the seedbox from? sorry new to all of this.
