Yesterday I loaded a 10mb data bundle on my MTN sim and inserted the yellow thing in an old phone of mine. Browsed a few sites with the Opera Mini 5 installed on the phone (since Nov). All of the sunday, on a Wednesday afternoon, MTN has added their logo to the start up (splash) screen.

Who gave them permission to do this as I am a prepaid customer. My phone was bought from another SP. Please respect my privacy guys, I may be sounding a tad soft here but wtf is next? Your logo on all MTN numbers in my phonebook as their caller images??

MTN probably have an arrangement with Opera. I recall something similar with Facebook Mobile, visit from a Vodacom IP address and you'll see a Vodafone logo on the login page.

Don't give them ideas! :)

Cool, now what happens when I want to throw your yellow card thingie away (ooops, just did), will I then have to head over to m.opera.com and download the app again? I got more ayoba ways to spend my day you know!

Use your PC to download and copy it to your phone. That way you avoid Opera detecting your MTN browser/sim.

Don't think that will help if one intends on browsing using their MTN sim. I had used that very method to install the browser btw...

The problem is if you browse on Opera mini using that yellow thing, the next time yopu run Opera, the splash screen will have been loaded. Happens in background via Opera and/or MTN's servers.

I just got one too, and i'm starting to feel a bit claustrophobic
