OT: ANC Elective Conference

Seriously, how is that corrupt ***** Mabuza (he's really, really bad even by ANC standards) basically guaranteed the DP spot? I see he was far ahead of Lindiwe Sisulu on branch nominations so might be DP regardless of whether Cyril or NDZ wins.

Mabuza got 1128 branch nominations for VP vs NDZ's 1094 for pres. So he basically got the same branches nominating him. The CR branches were split on their choice for VP.
With the other VP candidates withdrawing the CR branches can be expected to now unite behind Sisulu.
I think Mkhize withdrew to prevent a split in the CR slate vote, most of his nominations came from EC which is CR country.

If Mabuza actually wins VP spot, CR would be well advised to move quickly to get him prosecuted for any of the many crimes he is alleged to be involved in. It could be a repeat of the Mbeki era as he tried to get something to stick against Zuma. Hopefully CR will be more successful.

Problem is Mabuza was only 3 votes behind Mkhize in the Eastern Cape, compare that to how far behind NDZ was to Cyril in Eastern Cape and you will see just how difficult this is going to be for Sisulu, unless they managed to persuade some of those Unity voters is Mpumalanga.

The Ramaphosa MP's (there are definitely many more than the 50 needed) will join the opposition in parliament to remove Zuma as president in early January. It will be a secret ballot (Mbete is now openly in the CR camp).
She as speaker will be appointed president when parliament fails to replace Zuma. Elections will then be held within a month.
The ANC will be spilt and in disarry, with the 2 factions competing against each other in the elections.

That's not exactly how an event like that would take place.

Firstly, the ANC would need to hold a vote of no confidence in Zuma, and force him to resign (impeachment might just break his patience). Then, with Zuma's resignation, the DP and the rest of his cabinet resigns and become ordinary MPs. Voting in parliament than takes place to elect a new President, and during this time Mbete is acting president.

The only point at which special elections would be held is if parliament cannot elect a replacement president and the situation draws on longer than 30 days.

Section 83.3:

An election to fill a vacancy in the office of President must be held at a time and on a date determined by the Chief Justice, but not more than 30 days after the vacancy occurs.

Section 50.1:

50. (1) The President must dissolve the National Assembly if—
(a) the Assembly has adopted a resolution to dissolve with a supporting vote of a
majority of its members; and
(b) three years have passed since the Assembly was elected.
(2) The Acting President must dissolve the National Assembly if—
(a) there is a vacancy in the office of President; and
(b) the Assembly fails to elect a new President within 30 days after the vacancy
occurred.

A vote of no confidence does not have to be called by the ANC, it can be any party.
The CR rebel mp's would vote with the opposition (that is my prediction, not fact) and force Zuma + cabinet to resign.
No replacement will be agreed on - ANC too divided and opposition will refuse to endorse an ANC president. So elections will have to take place.

My prediction is that even if CR wins Zuma will be allowed to serve out his term. It looks like the NEC will remain as divided as ever over what to do with him

I tend to agree with you..

Well then CR may as well give the seat to NDZ. If he really wants to show hes about change he must recall that uneducated twat and for the love of god for **** sakes get rid of that police minister.

Time for some humour while the country's future hangs in the balance :D

THE BONES have spoken!

It’s a close call as the future of Mzansi hangs in the balance.

But the People’s Paper has consulted sangomas and they all agree . . .

C yril Ramaphosa will be the next president, they say.

With the race down to Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma late yesterday, sangomas told Daily Sun they are all confident Cyril Ramaphosa will be the next president of the ANC, and therefore the next president of South Africa.

Sangoma Jabulani Mthimkhulu from Soweto said he threw the bones three times and they showed him the same result each time.

“My bones have shown Cyril will win. My bones are never wrong and never will be,” he said.

So why are they all bothering with this garbage and wasting time and money, hell, why do we even hold elections? Just roll the bones every couple of years and be done with it
