OT: ANC Elective Conference

How so? You don't think a CR win has a slight chance of being a good thing in the long run while a NDZ win cements the downward spiral we're in?

From an ANC perspective, I think NDZ win is a bigger risk going into 2019 elections and a quicker downward spiral of the ANC's power. From a country perspective, there is a risk of more political instability judging from the rhetoric coming from NDZ support. NDZ and her support are dangerous.

YEs, but with NDZ the blatant corruption will be allowed to continue. They know CR will put a stop to it, and they need the trough.

Allowed to continue - only until 2019.

CR might say he's going to put a stop to it, but this sort of thing runs deep. Read the history of the ANC, not just since 1994. I think even if he does put a stop to it, it will take years to get it right.

Seriously, how is that corrupt ***** Mabuza (he's really, really bad even by ANC standards) basically guaranteed the DP spot? I see he was far ahead of Lindiwe Sisulu on branch nominations so might be DP regardless of whether Cyril or NDZ wins.

I still don't understand what hold does he have over ANC members, even in Ramaphosa stronghold of Eastern Cape he did very well.

Is there any way for one of them to fire Mabuza once they've won?

The threat of being executed could be a possible factor.

What are the chances of a major split within the ANC after this and the formation of two seperate parties?

Surely the best possible outcome for today would be a CR victory and a split with two parties and a far more contested 2019 election?

There isn't, We are stuck with him, the branches selected him and he's here to stay.
And will probably make president one day. If NDZ wins it means the spiral will ever continue. Problem is DD has support so even given his corrupt ways he could still get the ANC elected

If Cyril wins the NDZ faction won't go anywhere, they'll stick around, scheme and plot behind the scenes, a positive for the opposition is the votes that will be up for grabs in KZN.
