OT: ANC Elective Conference

Cyril is by no means a favourite of mine, but SA can celebrate that we will have a non-Zupta faction leader, who is educated and more likely to reduce the levels of corruption, and between him and the courts, who knows we could get real lucky and Zupta is jailed.

We can but hope ...

New ANC top six: three crooks, no doeks.

So my take is that Cyril being in charge is better for SA than NDZ, however the NEC is disappointing and a great indication of just how strong the corruption faction in the ANC still is. Ace, Duarte, and David are all known corruption hogs. The rest may also be but quieter. I honestly think the two factions are right now the open and flagrant corruption group vs the lets make it look like we are not corrupt and take corruption down a notch and get it out of the media but still get some on the side.

Either way a hung NEC is not going to recall Zuma. Only way I see it happening is if David Mabuza flips in yet another power play by him.

As for Cyril, he promised an anti corruption platform, lets see how he delivers. I don't think he has the power to recall Zuma on his own but when he does get the power I would like to see what he does about:
Shaun Abrahams
Tom Moyane
Finance ministry and the attack on SARB
Our current public protector (have forgotten her name)
etc.

If he immediately strengthens those positions and institutions by removing the wrong people and getting the right one's in we have a chance. If he dithers, he is either in bed with them or two politically weak to make the change.

So yes, will be interesting to see how this all pans out. All I know if the ANC went from no hope to a snowballs chance in hell.

An interesting scenario will be if NDZ and her faction do not accept the result and we get a split in the ANC not from the CR17 side but by the corrupt faction. I can't see it happening unless CR really gets full power over them from within the ANC and actively tries to put them all in jail but it could happen. For now their power base seems only slightly weaker than CR17 so it seems to make more sense to stay and fight from within for a return to full control.

major plus for me is that Carl Niehaus will not be polluting our airwaves...unless you are an ANN7 supporter.... that reminds me....anyone seen @rza :crylaugh:

He's been nominated and accepted a place in the NEC, so don't count your chics too soon. A lot of Zuma's losers may well turn up in there. At least the attempts to turn the ANC into a Zulu tribal party may have been averted. For now.

Is it just me or do you also see a resemblance between Carl Niehaus and Kelsey Grammar (Frasier Crane)?

Our predictions sometimes don't quite hit the mark, in his defence it was very close, but then I do seem to remember him saying there was no way Cyril was going to win this.:D

Ramaphosa better make sure the rest of the NEC are made up by his own side. He could find himself outmaneuvered even out of the country's presidency if he's not careful with Ace and DD. Nothing actually stops a Zuma heavy parliament nominating and electing someone other than CR in 2019 lol.

No longer Zuma losers, but ACE/DD faction...once you no longer serve your purpose, you discarded, and you no longer matter...Zuma 101, was just visited on former Number 1.

Think, NEC will ask Zuma to step down...what is clear of the new faction they do not want to loss power...seems most likely Mpumalanga threw their support behind CR17, to prevent a split..and will kick Zuma to the side, to show the new administration intent to clean house....all to ensure that 2019 is won.

He still is a spokesperson of the MK I think.

Good point there, Cyril gets them the victory for 2019 and they then use the Zuma majority MPs to vote for someone else. It's not going to be easy for him, I find myself at times wondering how much of a politician he really is, but time will tell.

1 step forward. 2 steps back. How can some members vote for CR, then vote for some of the other top 6 that personify the problems we have had for 10 years????

Pessimist in me still has ****all hope.

It only makes sense if vote trading took place. The process was clearly corrupt. Democracy my ass. In exchange for CR as president, votes were clearly traded to include the corrupt in positions of power. Otherwise the results make no sense as you said. We are supposed to be grateful the Zuma faction never got president while ignoring the corrupt process.

I'm not sure MP supported CR. I think most of them voted for NDZ given the fine margins between CR and NDZ. With most of MP voting for CR he would have trounced NDZ.

My thoughts too, I seem to recall that even with those Unity votes going to NDZ Cyril still was ahead of NDZ, had Mpumalanga voted for him the margin would not have been this close.
