Hi Guys

I have numerous clients with the search function not working in Outlook 2016 and have unable to find a fix it.

I have tried:

Office Quick Repair
Office Full Repair
Rebuilding Index
Confirmed that Outlook folder is selected for indexed items
PST Scan
Right Click PST>Advanced Options> and checking that pst should be indexed.

but still no luck. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Is Outlook listed under Windows indexing options?

Yes it showed up once I add the PST to be indexed by right click advanced options and ticking the box.
I also tried rebuilding Index after this step but no luck.

The Search works when starting Outlook in Safe Mode (Hold Ctrl while clicking Outlook icon) but slow.

I uninstalled Office 2016

Downloaded Office 2013 via Office 365 advanced options
Tried a search and got a notification that Outlook is busy indexing but started showing results.

For now this is the only solution I could find.

At least Outlook sets up automatically. No need to reconfigure.

outlook POS email client!

pity it's the only thing that can properly communicate via Exchange

Office 2013 was removed from Office 365 so that fix does not work anymore. The search issue has become a pain the last 2 week. More and more people reporting it.

Reverting back to previous builds does not resolve issue either. Anyone know of a quick fix?

I've had a halfdozen clients call with this exact problem this week alone. All Office 365 (Office 2016) users, and fortunately managed to fix them all with the following:

#1 Run SCANPST.exe from your Office16 and repair all of the user's PST files. <- This is the core reason why the indexing no longer works. Some sort of corruption in the PST file.

#2 Now go back to Outlook and Compress the PST files under Data file Options/settings.
[I've found in 1 of the cases I had to move/archive eg. 2014 mails to a separate PST file, where the PST file was around 8Gb and EVERYTHING was under the Inbox and Sent items only, no subfolders. Not sure if that's the reason why, but I couldn't get this one PST to index until I reduced it in size]

#3 Go to Outlook Options, Search, and Rebuild the Index.

It's extremely curious why suddenly so many people have this issue.../conspiracy hat/.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try them and report back.

Looks like Microsoft released an update to fix the issue.

File > Office Account >Update Option and check for updates.

Restart Outlook and rebuild index.

Worked for me on 2 PC's so far... Few more to go

Has anyone come up with a fix for this? Still having trouble
