C'mon Gary, give us a proper review!
OK, so I plugged it in last night....
Boots up very quickly, and immediately does a firmware check. It went through one update. I love the humour while it's updating.
Then it finds your Wifi and sets that up.
Then it asks you to create an OUYA account for purchasing games in the future... credit card required.
The only other option is to buy OUYA prepaid cards, but those are only available at Walmart or Target.
I did also plug in my ethernet cable, but it seems to want to default to the wifi for some reason.
There were one or two issues with the wifi, it seemed to lose track of the wifi and I had to go back and find it again.
Eventually that problem went away and it stayed connected.
You then go to the OUYA store and choose the games you want to download, some of them are fairly heft downloads, but you can queue them all up and then wait.
ALL of the games are free to try, and give you a certain time limit before buying. Others are completely free.
As the games are downloaded, they appear in your play list.
NOTE, OUYA does not support the Google Play Store or ANY other type of APP store.
You can ONLY use the OUYA store... (for now I guess, we will see what hacks come along).
Game graphics are great, music is great (but both obviously depend on the Developer).
The only other issue I had was that some of the Games don't provide proper QUIT options.
I found I had to turn the console off to get out of some of the games.
There are already a LOT of games, and more being added all the time.
But as I said in the other thread, don't expect Playstation or XBox type games.
These are just your basic Android type games.
Controller is very responsive, and I like that I can add PS3 or Xbox controllers.
And I can also add Blutooth and Android devices as well.
I have not tried the external storage yet (via the USB port).
I have heard some guys have had issues with the USB drives getting corrupted.
Will have to check that out (although it might have been solved in this latest firmware update).
I haven't tried to play any movies yet. I haven't looked to see if there is an App yet which does that.
This thing is obviously focused on Games, but I'm sure we will see some approved apps come along for Multimedia.
