He's done a lot for all students. Ensuring equal access for all children. He's done well. One of the better performing MECs. South Africa needs a few more like him.

How did he ensure equal access for all children in any meaningful way that was not in place before he was put in the position?

I explained in my first post why he is terrible in this job. Many people in this thread are confirming what I said. Heck, I am sure that some people in this thread and I have crossed paths somewhere. Lesufi is:

  1. Wasting money by trying to implement first world solutions in a third world environment - we really need to get back to basics.
  2. Divisive and politicizing education. Politics should not be anywhere close to young children. He is also making race a very big issue in schools.

You are what is wrong with South Africa. You accept and encourage mediocrity because politically correct things are being said. The ANC has groomed people like you to toe their line and let them get away with stealing everything right out from underneath you. You also go on to attack the very people paying for that mediocrity.

You are a self professed lover of black people. Can you not see that everyone here wants education to be improved? The disagreement is actually about how this politician is going about it. He jumps on the bandwagon with zero thought about the ramifications. Case in point: the alleged racist nursery school with the kid with the cupcakes. There was ZERO wrongdoing, but no apologies were made. I see (unsurprisingly) that you are avoiding answering any questions that make you think outside of your little box and make you challenge your narrow and racist views.

Albert Broco posted some very alarming information above. Why is there no national outage? The Department of Education is producing illiterate children because of their poor policy decisions, inaction and below sub-standard performance. Yet, you attack "pre colonial attitudes" and whites. Black people are being hurt more by black people like you and Lesufi because you would rather toe the political line than get off your backside to affect real change.

It is not in the interest of the ANC to have an educated populace. Given the parlous state of education in the country, one must assume it is so by policy. Which is very nasty and very cynical.

That whole tablet debacle seems to have been a cock-up of note. What was achieved? ( Other than a whole bunch of stolen or stuffed tablets ).

Not specialists, just concerned parents of school children who are negatively affected by ANC mismanagement.

Also, you have Zuma because of your inability to measure the impact of your decisions. So wow and amaze yourself.

And back on topic. What happened to the cupcake challenge. He was there, very vocal and peacocking. End of the day, without any further evidence, it turned out the "victim" was not a victim. No idea what the motives was, but money seemed to be it?

As for tablet access, I think pawn shops and ex students have more access to them than the students that need them. I distinctly remember an article about the department not being able to redistribute them. As with all his "successes", it was only that at inception, not long term.

12 000 tablets missing in Gauteng

However, Bodibe said the department distributed 64 000 tablets to pupils in 2015 but out of that, “we have retrieved 81% of the tablets”. The rest of the tablets were outstanding. This means about 12 000 tablets are missing. Bodibe said the department was on track to recover the outstanding devices from schools and pupils. “Some [of the tablets] are reported stolen and cases of theft have been reported to different police stations,” said Bodibe.
