My dads work got a new pc and I installed windows 7 on it. They use the accounting program Pastel, which was linked to Outlook Express on the old machine.

However, I couldn't install Outlook on Win 7 because I guess its bundled with IE and refused to install because a newer IE was on the system. I put on Windows Mail Live but apparently its not playing ball with Pastel.

Any ideas? I'm a thunderbird guy so I'm annoyed enough that I can't just install that in the first place.

Vista and Win7 changed from Outlook Express to Windows Mail. Winfows Mail Live is not the same thing afaik.

Just out of interest, why'd they buy a new PC without the OS installed?

I'm supprised pastel is running at all on win7. Are you running in that VM "XP mode" ?

Why are you surprised? Pastel runs 100% on windows 7 32 and 64 bit.

Pastel is designed these days to work with vista so why would windows 7 be different? most stuff that runs on vista will run windows 7.

You would need to phone pastel support and ask them how to setup pastel with windows mail or outlook. They must know considering loads of people will move over to windows 7 due to new pc sales. So pastel should know or should be planning on figuring it out.

The pc came with Vista. I upgraded to 7.

I did a search in windows for windows mail but the only thing I found was "go online to get windows live essentials". So I just got it through that. How would I go about getting Windows Mail?

You must go to windows live essentials page and select it from there.

Because of all the noobs who say microsoft including a mail and browser program is wrong we are forced to mission now.

http://download.live.com/ select mail.

Great, thanks. Hopefully I can talk the secretary through exporting data from mail live, uninstalling, installing that, importing data, setting up pastel and...

...on second thought I better do it myself.

Ok, wait, that seems to be windows live mail. I think I need windows mail (no live, whatever the hell that difference means) as windows mail live apparently doesn't play ball with pastel.

I think you better look at installing outlook man, microsoft have been forced into windows live due to people not wanting an email program shipped with windows.

You have to pay for Outlook, right? Pastel really should work with Thunderbird. *grumble*

Apparently the secretary got hold of someone at Pastel and they came around and installed something to make Pastel work with Windows Mail Live. Whew.

Yup thought pastel would be on the ball. They would be really stupid if their product could not work with windows 7 mail.

We had some come and install Pastel on the windows 7 box we use as the Pastel server, and the women deactivated something in Windows 7. I think it had something to do with the Action Centre. Apparently W7 conflicts with it and gives errors.

Guys, what does it mean when he says Pastel is 'linked' to Outlook? I am considering upgrading a PC at my father's business from XP to Windows 7 (clean install) but they use Pastel too and this concerns me. Thanks. :)

Basically dude when you want to email invoices, statements etc you need to link pastel to your email program.

Okay. Simpler than I thought. Lol. Where can I get hold of the software required to make this link with Windows Live Mail possible?

It comes from pastel dude, build in. You would need to contact them and ask how to link with windows live mail.
