Pathetic 3G Service

Just phoned the Vodacom 155 "specialists" and they confirmed that there is a problem in the JHB & Pta area, but as usual they can't offer a solution or time(network guys are busy).

Personally I think that speed.vodacom.co.za is a lie, because I just did a test and it gave me a ping of 81 and DPA=3.4 /UPA=1.2, but I can't even access speedtest.net WTF!!!?

speed.vodacom.co.za is internal to Vodacom's network, so I'm pretty sure that gets well looked after when their routers are allocating bandwidth as part of the QoS.

Obviously you're connected to a part of their internal network where you still have access to the speed.vodacom.co.za, but cannot break out onto the Internet to get speedtest.net.

You were lucky to get through. I gave up after 10 minutes.

Your speed test results are the same as mine. And, I agree: the VC speed test is really a non entity.

Damn! Two utterly frustrating days in a row.

I had quite a few call this morning. and Vodacom, Mweb as well as iburst seem to have the same problem. Now is it because there is a problem or is it because of the world cup draw.... All the bandwidth routed to Cape Town for the media. MMMM...

Great minds think alike!! ;)

At first, I suspected it had something to do with the cable breaks in Midrand, but if this were the case, surely we wouldn't have had great speeds last night, not so?

BTW, has VodacomData "left the building"?

Dont think so.

My old man works for Fifa, managing the broadcasting side and the broadcasting centres. They using MTN and Telkom, not Vodacom.

Good point, but VC makes use of Telkom, too, not so

What pisses me off is VC's total lack of communication with and disregard for their subscribers.

There were two more telkom cable breaks today. One in western cape, and then another in gauteng. It is affecting internal systems due to transmission failure. Not sure if it is affecting 3g services though. I don't think so.telkom is working on restoring the links.

Yes but has telkom maybe not routed the saix bandwidth for fifa. telkom is afterall the main boys to supply. If this is so does it mean that we will have super slow internet for the month of the world cup. Maybe Mybroadband can dig deeper. Because like I said its not only VC that is having the problem.

Mine's going strong still even though we have bad weather. Last night my latencies were a bit bad though.

I think the other countries (and probably Fifa) will realise how much our internet over here sucks when they come here for the world cup. Watch the blogs etc. ;)

It's kind of like the SAPS bragging that they are ready to protect the foreign soccer fans, yet they cannot protect their own citizens?

The Telkom TV ads claim that they are 100% ready to provide an excellent service to FIFA etc., yet they cannot provide the same service to the loyal SA internet users?

Looks like speeds are back to normal.

Did you guys have a complete internet "blackout" last night. I was happily browsing via my wi fi connection (via web africa) when it started giving me load errors. No pages wanted to load, international and national. Rebooted my laptop and the same thing. Plugged in my Vodacom 3G and also, the same thing? Anyone else had this last night? Sorry if it is a bit off topic. Just curious.

Nope, my 3G was working fine all evening.

Meanwhile, speeds seemed to have normalised since this morning.

BTW, still no reply to my PM from VD regarding my huge problems with 3G last week.
