Pathetic SA technology showing at CEBIT 2010

Hi

There were a total of seven South African technology companies represented at CEBIT 2010 (out of a total of about 4700). In my mind this is outright pathetic and shows how much we have slipped behind in software / hardware. Of the companies that were represented, very few of them had export products to show for it.

One can only hope that next time, SA companies will get off the butts and start showing off their talents on the world stage!

Those with the talents you'd like them to show is most probably living overseas, working for those overseas companies, coming to CEBIT and showing off... you'd be surprised. But yes. I agree with you. The guava-mint has done a brilliant job in suppressing education to the point where a Matric certificate now means "congratulations, we're fed up with you and you're old enough, now leave"

South Africa have always had a pathetic showing at CEBIT.

One of the reasons is the fact that the Dept of Trade gives minimal - if any - assistance. My guess is that they can't justify the first-class airfares for the DOTty officials ...

Actually, the entire CEBIT has gone down the drain. I always wanted to go and was planning to do it next year till I heard that its a waste. CEBIT is also a destination exhibition and claiming that South African IT companies do not have "export" products is a naive statement. There are many IT companies in Stellenbosch alone who make it just on exports.

Although I hate defending guavamint, venture capitalist is a swear word in South Africa. If you have ever seen the requirements before these guys have even taken a glance at you business / concept, then it just shows why people leave with great ideas.
