Paying Overdue Fines

Just out of curiosity, does anyone on here know whether or not you can pay an overdue fine at a post office even if you have missed your court date? I've seen numerous people say that they have contacted the magistrates court of the relevant municipality and sorted everything out. I tried that, but for some reason they can't help me. I also phoned the traffic department but they can't help me either.

I definitely missed the court date but just want to find out where I can pay it to make things easier. I know some sites show the extra R300 for missing the court date but this fine does not show up anywhere. According to Fines SA, even if they cover the municipality, the fine might not show up.

I got it in person but lost it. It was for 71 or something in a 60 so nothing crazy. I was always under the impression that you would get a second one or that I could just pay it online. This was back in 2021. Recently, I discovered that that is not always the case.

According to the post office, they don't handle traffic fines. Pick n Pay and all of them only handle EasyPay fines - which this does not have. I phoned the magistrates court and the traffic department for that area and none of them could help me. I renewed my car license in March of this year at the post office without any hassle though so I'm not sure if everything is fine.

I would love some definitive answers though because I don't want all the problems down the road if I get stopped at a roadblock.

If you got it in person, then it's best to pay. It's one of the few times they can actually issue an arrest warrant - I'm not a lawyer, but I recall something like this.
If it was a camera then they can't do that without proof of you having received it, or something like that.

What about paycity? Or payfine?

I tried paycity, paymyfines, fines sa, banking apps, etc. Like I said, I even tried the post office because it says online that you can use them. Not even the traffic department for that area can help me. I know not all online platforms cover each municipality but Fines SA does cover it.

Might be out of luck then. Maybe try going to the court where you were supposed to show? That additional charge is contempt of court isn't it?
 
last time I got one of these fines I just waited until it eventually showed up on paycity,
paid the fine and moved on with my life,

from what a gather, takes a while for a Fine to show up on paycity because they work at the speed of snails.
also similar, 71 in a 60 zone.

The court is 300km away from me. I can't drive all the way there and then they turn me away because I don't have a date. That's why I tried to phone them but it didn't help.

This fine is from 2021. Surely by now something would've showed up?

you haven't met our Government, and they half the time don't hand in their traffic fine books, because they forgot where they left the bakkies keys.
you can try your luck at the Court, see what they say,
 
so you recieved it in person and missed the court date on the fine ,yet nothing has happened sunce?the officer may never had loaded his fine list in ,or it wasnt captured ,ignore it .if you got your car liscence and it wasnt added then its not on the system maybe .go register on the aarto site ,if its not there take photos and keep them .then its not loaded .

Do you mean you were physically pulled over by a traffic officer and handed a fine with a court date written on the actual fine? Or did you receive the fine in the post, in person?

From what I've seen, AARTO is not implemented countrywide yet. It was supposed to be implemented in the 2021 but due to covid and legal issues, it got postponed. Therefore, aarto won't have anything to show.

Yes, I got it in person. I didn't really look at the fine because I was a long way away from home. Not like the traffic officer went over the document with me. In between everything, I lost it and was under the impression that I would see it online or get another copy sent to me - like they do with camera fines.

However, up until recently, I had actually forgotten about it. Now it seems like it's almost impossible to get information about it. Every single municipality "can't help"

No - they move slowely - but - when you get pulled over at a traffic stop and they check for warrants....

I phoned the number on the fine after getting a sms about the warrant - and they eventually helped me.
 
You have missed the court date. Bad news. Arrest warrant if I am not mistaken. Your soft stories will not help.

If there's no trace of the notice or a warrant of arrest on any fines website connected to your ID number then the fine probably never made it into the system. In any case, if there was a warrant of arrest out for you there would be an admin mark on your Enatis profile and you wouldn't be able to renew your vehicle license disc.
