Paying so much for games

I can see Bryn's point... for argument sake I bought a game (finished it) and sold it at BT games. Someone else buys it second hand, plays it and sell it...

This happens 30 times... BT games "made profit" of 30 sales and the developer only on 1 = "some sort of piracy"? Surely that is not so difficult to grasp the point he is trying to make?

That being said, there are so many loopholes in life that sticking and believing to one thing will make a can of worms open for yourself as you will contradict yourself at the next thing... aka illegal region using :whistle:

I for one are looking for The Witcher 3 ps4 version, and when I see it at BT games R150 cheaper than the new one, guess what I will buy the second hand one.... = SCUM :p

No we've been through this, you're cherry picking. If you think that used games are bad, then you must think that used everything is bad...
 
I use to live in the UK all my life and recently moved to SA. All I can say is, SA has it lucky when it comes to game prices.

A standard edition of a game in SA is R799.

A standard edition of a game in the UK is £55-60 = R1174.99 - R1281.18 (estimate as currencies always change).

I'm loving the fact that I can buy games for so cheap!

Its a bit of an unfair comparison as you receive wages/salary/payments in pounds...

You always buy your car/house/basically-everything new then?

A game can be labelled as a product which have second hand value. And all products with some value will sell. Nothing the original producer can do about it. Nada nothing zilch. Why should game creators be treated any different from car manufacturers?

Let Bryn feel guilty about all his 2nd hand purchases, whilst we take all the 2nd hand goodies he leaves for us at massive discount prices.

A buyer of a secondhand vehicle can most likely not afford the same vehicle new. That doesn't apply to gaming, therefore they're not comparable.

Person B is enabling Person A to support the Dev on a more regular basis .
Person B would never have the Budget to pay original price but is still indirectly supporting Dev because he is enabling Person A to do more purchases due to cash back from selling onto Person B.

So essence , Person A (New purchase) and Person B (Second hand purchase - Indirectly ) supports Dev

That's nuts. Of course it does. There are at least 10 games on Steam/Origin that I want right now that I can't afford.

Most likely, ifs and buts do not constitute a fact. Many people can afford a new car, but purchase second hand for the value they receive. What about property - why doesn't everyone buy off plan? Or build their own place? Think of all the money that the poor contractors and builders are missing out on...

I have both second hand car and second hand games. I also have a second hand xbox controller and a few other products I bought on gumtree/cape adds...

The sad fact is that I cannot afford either of the car or games new. :(
Does it make me a criminal? Hell no.

In your way of reasoning everything second hand should be avoided as it "harms" the original manufacturer who in your opinion could have sold the same items at original prices. So lets ban Gumtree, Junkmail, Cape Adds, Cash Crusaders etc etc then?

+1 Never ending debate not choosing sides but its like buying games but downloading series/movies/apps/music choose one :)

Everyone else is pointing out his hypocrisy. He's got no problem with second-hand PC hardware but second-hand games are bad.

Before you bring up "but he can't afford a new graphics card", yes he can, if you can buy a second-hand gaming PC you can buy a new, less powerful PC. Nvidia still makes money from you buying a lower-end graphics card, they make no money from you buying a high-end, second hand-graphics card. You're depriving those poor computer engineers of money that is rightfully theirs, money that they can spend on R&D to make even better hardware.

You people with second-hand hardware are scum :mad:

Same principle applies to Hardware sales

Person B would not buy hardware that is not sufficient to run game at an acceptable level of performance /graphics .
So he buys Person A`s previous gen high spec card to run game at acceptable levels. Thus giving Person A the opertunity to buy latest gen again at a reduced financial knock.
