PC Crashes randomly - Frozen Blue screen

PC Crashing randomly, no particular program/trigger. The screen just turns blue, not the BSOD colour blue/definitley not the BSOD. Sometimes is will have lines across the screen (also blue). Whenever this happens I have to hold down the restart button (not the power button) for up to about 10 seconds and then I suppose it is forced to restart. Any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Check if your hardware is properly put in place. Broken RAM Sticks cause this kind of problem normally. Check to see drivers are installed properly. If you Installed new hardware / software, try and remove them temporary to see what causes the problem.

a few things you can try:

Run Memtest to check you RAM
Also run Intel Burn-Test, 20 runs on Max memory.

If those both pass, then its 90% a software issue. Probably drivers (causes most BSOD's). Get the latest drivers for everything, even try those that windows installed. Given the fact that its not a full on BSOD, leads me to think it may be GPU or RAM related if it is hardware. What is your system specs?

Another way to isolate hardware/software issues is to boot from a Linux live CD - if that works, problem most likely software related...

In order:

1. Memory defective / not put in correctly
2. Overheating
3. Graphics Card (yes, it does happen) overheating / defective
4. Software drivers
5. Virus

Normally I'd blame RAM as well, but the blue lines makes it seem like a GPU issue. The randomness can also be attributed to the GPU stuffing out when it starts warming up, then only works again when it's cooled off. This is a telltale sign of mushroomed caps (capacitors that are bloated & malfunction under heat)

1. Eliminate the OS, boot of a Linux livecd like LinuxMint or Ubuntu and see if you still have problems.
2. If the above fails run MICRO-SCOPE DIAGNOSTIC SUITE to find the culprit. PM me if you cant find it, only 10MB on cd.

It could be anything from your RAM to Motherboard or even your Hard drive!

Run some checks like memtest or gold memory and also run a hard disk scan
