PC game suggestions for a noob...

I got all 3 Bioshock games for $5 last year with the sale, once the summer sale comes around hide your wallet or something because you will spend waaay more than you think.


Couldn't finish The Walking Dead because it got the feels... hard. Definitely worth checking out and if you like the style of animation another vidya to get is The Wolf Among Us.

Little Big Adventure 1-2 is still something I play once every 5 years. Deus Ex 1-3 is also a very special gem in my opinion, also an abundance in games similar to this. I even replayed the Ultima series over December.

Its not that good by the way, Im not trying to show off or anything but to put it into perspective, my GTX 460 smokes it.


EDIT: Why start with the latest BioShock game? Thats like starting on Season 4 of Game of Thrones. :erm:

Inf is the better of the 3. I hold out for 8 hours in 1 and then just stopped... whereas Inf was a lot better. Besides now after Inf I actually want to play 1. Just skip 2 its ****... different studio.
 
Knowledge of 1&2 isn't necessary for Infinite.
And Rickster the 740m is fine at the resolutions he's playing.
 
Bioshock Infinite has a very good storyline, especially when you start figuring out why it's called Infinite (no, it's not the amount of hotdogs you eat from the trash cans), but I agree that the middle part is bit bloated. Work through that and the ending is a good reward for your persistence.

Been playing Deus Ex human revolution director's cut for the past few weeks. It has been a long time since I played a game that made me want to explore everywhere, hack everything, read everything. The story is somewhat predictable on the larger scale, but the subtleties are great. Loving this game, probably going to play a violent playthrough soon. Been doing the sneaky sneaky so far.
 
Right, so here's a quick update:

Played Dishonored - got a little bored. It just felt formulaic in that it was a case of go to a certain place, shoot, then move on. The story feels a little like an excuse to shoot people. I guess I was hoping for more. Only played a few minutes though as duty called (excuse the near pun).

Bioshock Infinite on the other hand is quite cool. Enjoy the look and feel, but perhaps I'm just not a fan of the shooting games in that I really get a little bored with moving around then someone shooting at me. Then moving around, then someone shooting again, and they hide the automatic weapons in so much light that they're tough to spot.

Not really sold on this yet. Haven't tried any online gaming yet which is what I wanted to, but I don't have a cooking clue where to start with that.

I guess I really do just enjoy sports games, racing games and GTA. Are these shooting and fighting games really as good as it gets? I mean, you just walk around and shoot schit and convince yourself that there's a great story behind why you're doing it? Perhaps I just need to spend more time with them, and perhaps try the online thing as well, but I'm not very good yet, and I imagine online gaming to be over-run with 8 year old experts telling me to go suck my fsck or something...
 
You could always try some RTS like Shogun 2. Just don't go with Rome 2 its total *** thb... How about need for speed hot pursuit 2? (see a lot of 2s here hehe)

Even some platforming you can tryout like darksiders, but for shooters it really depends what you want. There is the more "pure" shooters like painkiller or those who are more story oriented. The thing is that you might very well find that most AAAs these days are little AAA indeed. Its all about the dollar bill... sadly.

This goes for the online genre whereas the golden days seems to have come and go. Where it was worth your while and now its just about how easy it is to get geared and leveled up. Especially if you look at the state of wow and that which followed after it. For example the vanilla versions are normally a lot better before they fsck it up to fit to each and everyone.

You won't be disappointed. Bioshock is my favourite gaming franchise so far. The stories in all 3 are intense and the games are highly polished. Infinite has some of the liveliest characters I've ever seen in gaming. You really start to care about Elizabeth.

I can't vouch for Dishonored though - I gave it a full 30 minutes, but it didn't keep my attention.
 
Just give Dota 2 a try as well. You seem to like a challenge, and well, learning the combo's and builds in Dota is a helluva challenge.

You need to plow a few hours into it to get a feel. The game is the opposite of an 'excuse to shoot people' - you can play the whole game without killing anybody, and the tactical approach you take changes the nature of the game world. It's not at all formulaic. That's not to say you'll like or dislike it, but I think your first impressions are mistaken about the game as a whole.

Bioshock Infinite on the other hand is quite cool. That's the reason I'm not so enthusiastic about BioShock. I find the mechanics of the gameplay quite weak. The gunplay is vague and the powers don't seem fully realised, and there's not a lot of real strategy involved. It compensates by having a strong storyline but around the middle the story drags and it starts feeling like a chore to play. Still to me the best example of a shooter integrated with strong narrative is Half Life 2 (and eps 1-2), and also Portal 1&2. Alyx Vance >>> Elizabeth.

AC:BF actually does have a pretty great story. But gaming takes time to get into. A couple of hours of walking about and shooting and then getting bored isn't a very fair assessment, honestly. Modern games have 30-40 hours of gameplay, and they build up an entire world that draws you in. If you think about why you like GTA, it's probably because at some time you gave a whole day to it and found that you got totally sucked into it (I've never given any GTA game much time but I can imagine it's like that).

The last single player game I finished was bioshock infinite, before that it was probably GTA4 like 3 years ago... before I had internet and multiplayer. Only really into BF4 multiplayer now... Nothing really compares to it, it's ridiculously fun.

I think you mean Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010) because NFS HP 2 was my first PS2 game.

Just some advice for DJ, if you dont like being called names and sworn at, I highly recommend you dont play Dota 2.

Also just geting into gaming with my kids. Played Quake 3 and shot the s h ! t out of them..:twisted: Got 2 x i5/GTX660 boxes. Unfortunately I have 2 kids...

They also have their noses stuck in Minecraft all the time. Although I am a LEGO freak, I simply dont 'get' Minecraft
