Ok, please call Fairbairn Kriel @ Vodashop, Vodaworld on 011-653-6750.

They have cards in stock, for R249, I believe.

I ordered one at a local Stellenbosch Shop [2 days ago]. They did give me a confused stare initially until the salesperson phoned someone who actually told her "read your bulletins" . So she did that [doesn't look like it's high priority to read those :p] and then said "ok, right, i'll phone you when it arrives". So i assume all Vshop get those bulletins, i doubt this particular shop is special :p

Exactly right. All shops get the bulletins. Do they read them? Not to sure.

Shall I get them and publish them here?

Strange, on purchasing normal lines the last few weeks I dealt with 3 different Vodashops. I have to give credit to the Sandton Branch (Opposite Musica) and the one in Rosebank. Both stores knew what was going on and the Manager at Sandton spent hours with me when I innitially got my 3G in getting it working. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I'm just curious

Does something like this exist? I'm using my laptop with my 3G card, but what if I wanted to use this card on a normal pc?

Could I get an adapter to use the Cardbus card in a normal pc?

Anyone know of anything like this? Anyone know where I can get one if they exist?

I've heard there is a pci version of the 3G card, but I already have a 3G card so I don't want to waste.

Hi,

Have a look under the FAQ. There's a link on where to buy such an adaptor.

Have not tested it myself, but the P111 is a universal PCMCIA adaptor, so it should work OK.

Another simple plug and play solution is to plug the PCMCIA card to an 3G Router which has both LAN and WLAN interface. You can easily connect your PC to any 3G networks including EDGE, UMTS, CDMA 1x, & EVDO. Search "Top 3G Router" on google will give you a list of the top suppliers around the world.

Other brands besides Elan

hi its hard to me to get the elan because of the expensive freight costs to Malaysia. Elan (taiwan) quoted me USD 79 excluding freight which is USD 15. :p Do you know how I can get buy it from vodacom or can i use other brands of adaptors such as Accton?

I saw the Accton brand in Malaysia but according to the retail shop guys it doesn't work with the Novatel Merlin u530 (the data card being sold by Maxis Communication Malaysia), I haven't tested it myself but it cost about 115 zar.

Any other solutions? thanks

Got quoted R295 plus VAT

Hi VC3g

Just spoke to Graham at Microd, the sole distributor of the Elan card in SA (as per their website) and got a cold shoulder - Presumably they say that they do not know who came up with this price as their landed cost is R250 ex VAT. Also they said that they never spoke to anyone at VC?

Are there any other distributorss around?

The cards were supplied directly be Elan. Have you tried the Vodacom Retail channel?

PCI PCMCIA Adapter - Dual Processor

Does anyone know of an alternative supplier of PCI PCMCIA adapters for the 3G card. I purchased the Elan card from Vodashop, as advised. After many frustrating hours I consulted the Elan website and discovered that the card will not work on a dual-processor motherboard. Does anyone know of a fix for the problem. Windows detects the card, but there appears to be an IRQ conflict (with no option of adjusting the resource scheduling).

Bye
