It's obviously lower spec than us version but for the price I paid for it am very happy. viewing angles are actually pretty decent in my opinion, certainly don't have the issues you seem to have. Thanks, I made sure that takealot offered the 30 day hassle free return with this TV so I've logged the return with them. I'm not sure whether it's broken or maybe I just received a really bad panel. Looking at the level of IPS glow I'm pretty certain that the panel is specific to SA as overseas youtube videos of the 75inch are amazing off angle and nobody on the forum has mentioned IPS glow.

It also seems like settings are a mismatch with the panel. Brightness goes from 1 to 100 and default is 50 for hdr. Dropping down to even 47 makes dark scenes almost disappear in a haze of black whilst going to 60 makes blacks turn white. There's no fine tuning which makes me think we've got offshore hardware with a mismatched cheap panel.

Blacks are good on YouTube hdr demos where background is completely black with some bright higlights as it just turns off the zones. Outside of that it's poor.

VRR also disables local dimming which makes it unusable for gaming as the blacks become light grey and there's clouding everywhere.

It's a pity as the set has potential with a good panel

I bought the 85U7H a few weeks ago and am happy with the brightness and colours etc. My issue is with the Automatic Light sensor. If you enable it the brightness dims or brightens with the amount of ambient light in the room, all good and makes sense. I have this setting turned off and every time I turn the TV on it is super dim. I have to go to the automatic light sensor setting and toggle it ON (even in a pitch dark room), wait a few seconds and then the screen goes to my brightness level then I quickly turn it off again else it starts to dim the screen again.....until the next time I turn the TV on and I have to repeat the process again.

I have contacted the useless Hisense support, who after ignoring me for over a week, until I spammed their support, finally replied saying this is how the TV was designed, you can't actually turn the automatic light sensor off and I just have to live with it. I find that impossible? How can a setting be included that can be turned on and off but doesn't actually work? Surely a TV can't be made where you have to adjust the brightness each time you use it. Hisense can you give me an actual answer?

it is utter horse manure of the first order BUT it seems like all Hisense TVs are actually designed like that - my A655H also does that - i cant seem to switch that Po3s auto dimming setting off even after setting it off in the menu it keeps on working in fact this website on dark mode keeps on erratically dimming and then going bright randomly (i use the TV as a PC monitor too) - and that is why i will never get a Hisense TV ever again even though they are priced very competitively but they seem to have loads of utter bullshit settings - and that Vidaa operating system is a load of utter junk .... and you have to buy a TV box to actually make the TV make sense - you have to use it as a monitor instead of as a smart TV .... now i know why so many people say you should stay away from Hisense because too much about it is nonsense

i was actually happy with their warranty service - the backlight went and they took a couple of days but they repaired it - but which other brand gives you a backlight that dies in less than 1.5 years and there seems to be many other complaints about these TV's ..... now i know why Samsung is the best selling TV brand .... their warranty service may suck but very little goes wrong with their units and you are indeed very unlucky if something does go wrong - i have a Samsung Plasma that is more than 7 years old that has given me far less problems than my 1.5 year old Hisense

yeah, my old B7100 did the same thing. Would switch auto dimming to off but it would still dim in specific scenes. They even sent a technician in to look at the TV, but they couldn't see anything wrong with it and thought he was helping me by adding Google's DNS servers to the TV settings.

Bought an A6H (does the exact same thing, auto-dimming can't be switched off) a few months ago after the B7100 was stolen, and yes I understand they're both budget TVs, but something as basic as a setting not doing what it should do, makes no sense.

Honestly, at the end of the day, if you want a cheap TV you can give to your parents or put close to the braai, get a Hisense, but if you want something as your main TV and you care about not having weird software quirks and general display defects that appear to pop up more on Hisense - get something else.
 
I swear it was 13k when I posted the link.. Guess I’ll hold off until another sale comes because the cheapest 1 now is at Takealot for 14k.

Can anyone recommend a Hisense TV for me? Looking at around 55" - have a soundbar already, need 3x HDMI input. Mainly for watching downloaded series and PS4. Have a Xiaomi Mi Box already too so not too fussy about OS (although wouldn't mind ditching). Currently looking at the 55A6H.
