DStv subscribers have started a petition to remove the ANN7 news channel from DStv.

Haha wow that's a lot of stupid. So this guy wants his propaganda to be free? If it really is propaganda, you want it as hard to access as possible. Rather have it on DSTV than SABC

Problem is not that it's on but that we pay for it - first through state funding via sponsorships (eg Eskom) and second through dstv subs.

Money is better used by Eskom and the like on reliable, affordable, sustainable power

Agreed on the Eskom bit, but I'm pretty sure ANN7 pays DSTV to air their drivel, so if anything they're decreasing your DSTV subs, not increasing it. Let Guptas air more channels on DSTV and subsidize our subs even more

I don't have DSTV or any terrestrial TV, so don't really care, but maybe people are just fed and trying to make a point?

What are they going to do when Dstv does not budge, cancel their subscription in protest? Or convince themselves that they've made a point?

Dstv is yet yet to give us a chance for us to choose our channels, until then the best anyone opposed to ANN7 can do is not to watch it, unless of course I am missing the whole point of this petition.

This is weak half-assed activism. If you really feel strongly about it, tell Multichoice you will cancel your subscription if they don't remove ANN7 - and then actually go through with it! Multichoice is not going to care about an online petition until it also starts hurting their profits

But how difficult is it to just not use the channel? I doubt there is any sort of rule that forces a subscriber to watch any particular channel if they don't want to.

Hence my confusion. I religiously watch Anna News and Ann7 sort of threw me off.
