Petition started to remove judge over rape comments

African culture which while not been homogenous within SA, still share some basic aspects which contribute to the issue.
There are over 100 different cultures in Africa, ffs

Honest answer, is I don't know. I would hope not and hope that her conversation with Gillian Schutte was just massively ill-conceived and all that and was a massive mistake. She does need to face the consequences of her conversation and its racist aspect though, especially since she is a judge and should be seen to be unbiased.

BUT, it doesn't necessarily negate a point that her conversation does bring about and that is the violence against women and "rape culture" that does seem to be overly prevalent in this country.

But when those protesters at Rhodes brought it up they were lambasted for it?

Not sure what her cultural background is, but her point while not well communicated is that there are aspects of african culture which contribute to this problem.

African culture = Black/White and that's fine. You won't hear anyone claiming White culture contributes to rape in UK or other sexual offences.

Correct, however many of them share the same basic aspects especially with regard to the status, power and expectations of men. African culture is extremly masculine driven.

I think the bigger problem with the Rhodes protest was how the protesters handled it?

But just reading a few of the articles surrounding it, I think its a completely different issue altogether isn't it? They want action to be taken against alleged rapists, not convicted ones.

actually you will except it will be more specific ie your chav or poor white culture. Traveler/gypsey culture. It will also manifest more on a country of origen basis

lol at some people here:
If someone says "there is a culture of rape among men" or "South African men are rapists" (ala Charlize), there is a big outcry here and all the men on myBB are like "I'm not a rapist", "not all men rape", bla bla bla.
But if someone says "there is a culture of rape among black men" or "Black men are rapists" (ala Judge Jansen) suddenly "it's their culture", "face the truth" and "have you seen the rape stats", bla bla bla
No, no racism here :wtf:

Did it occur to you that maybe its because there is an element of truth to the statement, however distasteful it is?

What are the rape statistics like between white and black people, and different areas in the country? I think it would probably paint a very very bleak picture that would be very difficult for people to accept.

The stats show that the prevelance of rape is higher in black communities than white indian or coloured even if you take into account population numbers. It is a socio/economic problem.

Those protestors effectively want university management to become judge, jury and executioner. Which pretty much goes against the rule of law. One would think university students would understand that what they are demanding of university management is illegal.

That being said, they wanted university management to step in because the police, judicial and correctional services in this country are incapable of dealing with the problem. And because all of those services are the responsibility of national government, people in local areas who want change in how those services operate are completely at the whim of the national populus.

Even if true, that doesn't mean it's part of 'black culture' (no such thing) or that all black men are rapists.

The vast majority of pedophiles in Europe and America are white males so I suppose that means that pedophilia is part of white culture and all white men molest children?

What are the pedophilia statistics like between white and black people? Should we then say it is a part of your culture? Of course not?

Is paedophilia in Europe an overwhelming problem that is practically beyond the ability of law enforcement to control because it is so endemic and rampant?

The protestors ran into that problem when they tried their luck at the law facilty.
The main issue is that there were no open cases and they claimed that they were prevented from oppening cases by whom i dont know

I think any sane individual would say hell yes it is. You have to be a special type to thinking otherwise.

Ok, then how many children are subjected to paedophilia since you say yes to my question..

Given that the backdrop to the point is that rape stats stand at around 25% - 33% of women in this country.
