Petition started to remove judge over rape comments

Wait so Gillian Schutte is upset about these "toxic" utterances, but waited almost an entire year to expose them :wtf:

Either she's the kind of demon-witch that collects dirt on people and saves it for a time when it has a more dramatic effect or perhaps she's on the ANC's electioneering payroll ;)

She seems to be more of an EFF supporter.

A judge should know better, especially in this current dysfunctional political climate...the judiciary must be like, Caesar's wife and be beyond reproach.

This. The political climate is irrelevant. A judge, whether in SA, UK, Aus etc does not indulge in dialog with a member of the public. Period.

That's a bit harsh. What about friends and family?

Shocking stats certainly, that is beyond dispute. To somehow suggest that it is our culture to rape is a step to far and unwarranted.

The truth "unwarranted"?

Just your way of trolling.

Judge was foolish. Debates on Facebook and twitter should be beneath the dignity of someone in her position.

But all South African men rape, it's no secret. Charlize has told us already.

Idiotic judge. How can we trust her to remain impartial moving forward in any rape case involving black South Africans? What do we do with her prior judgements now? Sack her.

Have you read the Facebook posts? All of them in question? And after you've digested the posts, have you made the connection that she is a deciding member of justice? I can't imagine how the topic is even debatable.

I thought someone else quoted a conversation they had with her, not that she directly posted the comments?

I follow on social media...and all I see is racist this racist that
Because that's what you actively search for in social media. #RapeCultureMustFall #EndRapeCulture #iamoneinthree

Reductio ad Absurdum.

Agree with yebocan. As a high court judge you never, ever get involved in any form of sensitive discussion on any form of social media with anyone. Best way to avoid this is to shun social media in total.

This is exactly the point. How do you remain impartial if you already associate all black people with rapists and therefore criminals. How can she possibly act without fear, favour or prejudice in any previous or subsequent rulings?

But then again I've had a black Magistrate tell me that "most darkies are guilty your darkie is no exception". Now tell me how do you defend someone after the presiding official has already told you he's guilty before you even started? I do believe however that it's impossible to not have some prejudice when you see the stuff they see everyday.

It's like when you see a strawberry in black and white you will always see a certain colour...

Family, as long as it doesn't include a criminal is relatively easy. Friends much more difficult. Most of the bench is drawn from the bar. It's natural for members of the bar to have friends who are also members of the bar. If you are asked to join the bench you must end those friendships.

Kavanaugh QC touched on the matter in one episode.

My GF is a barrister and one of the QC's in chambers was invited to join the bench. When he agreed what happened over the next few hours was spectacular. All trace of him as a member of the public was erased. Nothing was left. It was if he had never existed.

I can't see anything wrong with what the judge said. It's obvious that this is coming from her experience as a judge and what she has heard in court over the years.

Why are some people so upset when somebody tells the truth. There are lots of cultures in the world where women are just things that should pleasure men, even though that thinking is very distasteful and disgusting.

It doesn't matter if what she said was the truth or not, she should never have been involved in the first place. Judges are seen, and should be seen, to be beyond reproach and that is something that should hold true no matter the situation. What she did was expose herself as being prejudiced in some cases. There is no way that her impartiality going forward will not be called into question.

But Gillian can say that all whites are racist with impunity.

Despite all the research lets all just pretend it's not so because it's "politically incorrect" or offensive to some. Because denial always works out so well when it comes to solving a problem you're not allowed to define.
