Petition started to remove judge over rape comments

Which of her points have merit? I think most of this thread does deal with the merit or lack thereof of her comments.

That potentially there is a male dominated aspect to certain cultures that are being generalised as "black culture" that can, given certain socio-economic factors, increase the incidence of rape quite significantly.

She's a judge so she gets to see the worst of the worst every day, you don't base your view of an entire race on that. If she was a judge in the UK her caseload would get to see white murderers and rapists and pedophiles everyday. Would she then form the same opinion of white people, that they are all vile murderers and racists?

Ding ding ding. Finally someone to inject some logic into this "debate"

Not taking sides here nor condoning any comments from any party... but the timing of this is extremely suspicious.

This private exchange took place in May 2015.

Why is it only being raised now?

Schutte said that she had previously raised it with the JSC and nothing came of it, not that I really believe anything she says usually...

But that's exactly why there's a militant feminism movement all over the world and a lot of places like India, parts of Islam, Africa, obscure cults rape women in the name of whatever justification they feel like using.

If that is what she was trying to bring up she went about it in a very wrong way as her point got hopelessly lost in the racist commentary

I wonder what is worse, racists like the judge or the defenders who would go to great lengths to justify her comments?

I honestly think that was what she was trying to bring up.... and possibly (at least in her mind) that it is a bit more prevalent in "black culture" (I'm just using her generalisation) than would be expected...

Someone brought it up on page 1 yes it is possible Gillian only released this now to take advantage of the current racism frenzy sweeping the country.

Schutte trying to be relevant again. She reminds me of Ann Coulter.

But I'm still unclear as to whether the fuss is about the fact that she put her thoughts on social media or if it's about whether what she said is actually true or not.

You mean like when ngwe23 bent over backwards to make excuses for Qwabe's racism?

Even if she posted something that was 100% factual, a judge should not be sharing her personal/political views on social media. the fact that it was racist BS makes it a whole lot worse..

Why not now? You guys will try to poke holes and undermine any racial utterance aimed at blacks. I wonder if you gave Qwabe the same benefit of the doubt.
The allegations are extremely serious, so serious that they should have been raised in May 2015. Not only via a JSC complaint as she alleges but via the Chief Justice, the Equality Court or even the court of social media where she has now suddenly raised it.

PS. And take your racial questions elsewhere - do not direct it at me.

No great lengths were needed, since black people are incapable of being racist according to the current PC culture in South Africa.

It's not about poking holes, it's about making sure she actually said what Schutte said she did. If what the Judge is supposed to have said is true, then she shouldn't be a judge anymore. However her career as a Judge and possibly in the legal profession as a whole are at stake, it's worth making sure that she actually said what was attributed to her before she gets crucified..

If judges continue to be bias towards any agenda....it shows that they are human and also flawed.

They should not be held in the high esteem that is forced upon us mere mortals......

Whether she is a racist or not is not the issue.... the bigger issue is that the SA judicial system continues to fragment society....
