I can only really base my thought on the 1 meal I have cooked, but yes it really is very impressive.

Yip you can make steak, chops, chicken the works.

Can it fry an egg?

You know what, I am going to try that. You will need something to crack the egg into and place in the airfryer, but my guess is it would probably work :p

Love my airfrier.

Its actually amazing howmuch fat is in our food.

Put some schnitzels in the machine and look at the fat left behind that would normally be ingested.

Bought one on a Hirschs/Standard Bank special for R699 late last year.
It really is awesome.

Used it for fish, chips, schnitzel, vegetables, dumplings - all came out amazing.
It gives a different taste/texture to frying even with a drop of oil, but is a good median between the unhealthiness of deep frying and the dryness of oven grilling

Quick thread res. If anyone wants one of these bad boys http://www.onedayonly.co.za/ has them on special. Not the MOST amazing price, but a few hundred bucks cheaper. Well worth it. I still use mine a good few times a week. If you have kids, this thing is amazing for cooking up small meals for them.

Came to this thread because of OneDayOnly. Really considering buying one of them! How much can you actually make in this thing? It seems pretty small.

Look it is fairly small, but I have managed to cram a baby chicken and potatoes :D

It was a bit of a squeeze but managed to cook it fine. Its not THAT small though, I mean you could easily cook 2 pieces of steak and chips in it. But you not going to be able to cook a meal for six in the thing. I would highly recommend one though, money well spent!

Since previous posts, I have experimented with complete breakfast, Sausage, hash brown, burger pattie and egg. Took a while to perfect the egg, using a small pie tin.

What it does perfectly is a cottage pie, in the optional baking tray. We got ours from the UK, but I saw that they were available in SA now.

My wife complains that it is always being used, but it is also easy to clean in the dishwasher.

We have also discovered that microwaving the chips for a couple of minutes first improves them.

Nice to hear! I must look out for the baking tray. It really is the easiest thing in the world to clean, such a pleasure.

They're just convection ovens, so if you already have one in your house then the only benefit is the lower electricity usage, which doesn't really cover the cost of the thing. They don't fry anything - the name is a misnomer.

If you don't have a convection oven, then I'd say they're a decent buy...

Well it does kind of fry, just minus the oil and fat. Food tastes like it had been fried. Chips for example come out the same as if you had fried them in a pan.

It is physically impossible to fry without lipids present in fat. The only difference with the airfryers is they recommend you toss your potatoes in oil beforehand. Which amounts to the same volume of oil they absorb if fried correctly in a deep-fryer.

Without oil, you cannot fry, and without oil, you'll only be crisping the sugars in the potatoes - very, very different flavour and texture to frying.

And yes, I have used them, and blitzed them up to measure the oil absorption differences...
